“It’s a $180 Million Movie”: Christopher Nolan On ‘Oppenheimer’ Budget and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Similarity
One of the highly anticipated movies of this year is got to be the upcoming Christopher Nolan-directed Atomic Bomb era epic, Oppenheimer. The film has been receiving tons of hype due to the massive scale of the movie and the use of the IMAX camera for shooting. Not only that but the star-studded cast ensemble is equally big and interesting which further makes the film more enticing.
For a while, naturally, there have been discussions around the budget of the film, which recently got confirmed by Nolan himself. Along with that information, The Dark Knight director also shared a lot more detail surrounding his upcoming film.
Christopher Nolan Finally Revealed the Budget of Oppenheimer
With a film based on a true event and a pretty grand one, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has surely enough, gained a huge interest among fans and media. And rightfully so, considering the visibly ‘high-budget’ of the film which is made up of scenes that includes nuclear reactors and explosions.
Moreover, according to reports, Nolan has not made use of any CGI for the explosions which has further grabbed people’s attention and curiosity all the more. Inevitably, the budget of the film has been a significant topic of discussion with the initial assumption being 100 million dollars.
However, recently Nolan cleared the curiosity surrounding the budget once and for all. In an interview with Variety, the Inception director shared,
“It’s a big story and needs a big talent. It’s a 180-page script and it’s a $180 million movie.”
It is now clear that Oppenheimer‘s budget is 80 million dollars more than previously assumed. Although this is not the director’s most expensive film, The Dark Knight Rises being the most costly with a budget of 230 million dollars, nevertheless, the upcoming film has an equal amount of anticipation if not more.

This year’s upcoming film Oppenheimer directed by famed director Christopher Nolan is based on the titular real-life physicist Robert J. Oppenheimer. The plot revolves around the time Atomic Bomb was being developed where Oppenheimer had a significant role to play. According to Nolan, the film is 3 hours long which makes it only 2 minutes shorter than MCU’s 350 million dollars Avengers: Endgame.
That means both these films have almost the same run time. Oppenheimer which stars big names like Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, etc is slated to release on the 21st of July, the same day as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
