“It’s a life sentence marrying a royal”: Kate Middleton Reportedly Had No Choice But to Break up With Prince Williams As She Wasn’t Happy With Her Dating Life With a Royal
Becoming an additional part of a globally influential family can naturally seem like an intimidating task. And when it comes to one of the most influential families of all time, that makes it all the more daunting. The British Royal family is one such powerful institution that is always under the eyes of the camera, always subject to some or the other kind of scrutiny, and it obviously also comes with its fair share of privilege and glamour. All of this can sound like a lot of pressure to an outsider and reports suggest that the now Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, also succumbed to this pressure once, back in the day.
Kate Middleton had broken up with Prince William for a while
Kate Middleton and Prince William have known each other since the early 2000’s when they met at their university. The couple dated for as long as a decade before they eventually got hitched in 2011. However, that decade was not without its fair share of ups and downs and even breaks. Years before the Prince and Princess of Wales tied the knot, the latter had taken a break from the relationship. Middleton had broken off with her then-beau, Prince Williams owing to a serious realization.
Former royal correspondent Judy Wade told Hello Magazine,
“She (Kate) might have realised the awful burden she would have taken on. It’s a life sentence marrying a royal.”
The same has also been revealed by the couple itself back when they had announced their engagement. The betrotheds had been called for an exclusive talk and the subject of this breakup was also brought up. And it was something that both of them saw in a positive light, something that made them stronger as a couple.
The break made the couple “stronger”
During the interview, Prince William shared the inside details of their young love days, and the split as well. He said,
“We did split up for a bit. We were both very young, it was at university and we were both finding ourselves and being different characters and stuff. It was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up. It was just a bit of space. It worked out for the better.”
Middleton added to her fiancé’s words,
“At the time I wasn’t very happy about it but actually it made me a stronger person. You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realised. I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger. I really valued that time, for me as well, although I didn’t think it at the time.”
After over a decade now, the two are married still and share three kids, Princes George and Louis, and Princess Charlotte. They are also next in line to be the monarchs of the United Kingdom.
