“It’s a women’s world”: Iggy Azalea Reveals the Truth Behind Her Show Getting Canceled by Police in Saudi Arabia
Australian rapper Iggy Azalea came under fire during her show in Saudi Arabia. She did not get to complete her set, when authorities canceled the show.
The country has very strict policies and Azalea’s performance broke many of those rules. The rapper suffered a wardrobe malfunction on stage, and many speculated that to be the reason for the cancellation. But in an exchange with a fan on X (formerly Twitter), Azalea revealed the real reason for the happenstance.
Iggy Azalea Reveals The Truth Behind Show Cancellation
Iggy Azalea looked as amazing as ever wearing a latex catsuit while performing which ripped at the age during her performance. While performing at the Gamers8 esports tournament in the Saudi capital city of Riyadh, the singer’s outfit tore in the leg. Azalea was bothered, but in the show must go on spirit, she continued like nothing happened.
Things got worse when the tear went all the way up to the crotch area as Azalea was singing. Only then did a female crew member walk on stage with a black towel for the singer to cover herself and Azalea walked backstage to change.
However, she did not return and the show was canceled. It was assumed that it happened due to KSA’s strict attitude regarding skin exposure in public places. But Azalea put an end to speculations by answering a fan on X (Twitter) who asked:
“They really wouldn’t let you just change pants?”
Azaela clarified the situation saying:
I did but I also said
“Ladies make some noise, it’s a woman’s world!” And apparently that sent the authorities over the edge. Lol
I’m cool I just didn’t want the fans to be sad or angry at the show organizers cause it wasn’t their control or mine it was the police at the side…— IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) August 25, 2023
As the singer claims, her pants ripping had less to do with the cancellation, it was her lyrics and things she said while performing instead.
Things Going Wrong for Iggy Azalea in Saudi Arabia
As Azalea said in her Tweet, it was her lyrics that took things over the edge. Before starting her song Goddess, she exclaimed to the audience: “Ladies, make some noise, it’s a woman’s world!”
The song also includes the lyrics: “preaching about prophets, it ain’t no one man can stop us, bow down to a goddess,” which caused a lot of backlash as they are against the very values KSA governs on. Middle-eastern media and Muslims around the globe are calling the performance to be anti-Islamic.
The performance is a step in Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030, an effort through which the country is increasingly opening up to entertainment. But the way things went wrong with Azalea’s performance, can have a negative impact on Western media and popstars’ entry into the country.
