“It’s about getting viewers”: Former American Idol Contestant Says Show Chooses “Shi**y” Singers Over Actual Talent
Ryan Seacrest hosted American Idol, under ABC production, and is one of the most popular talent-hunting shows on modern television. Earning a staggering sum of millions of dollars in revenue, the show is supposed to focus on discovering stars and unknown singing talents. However, on a recent note, the show has been losing audiences, and contestants have been complaining about the lack of real competition.
Despite discovering and nurturing stars like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, American Idol has been facing a major setback. It has been reportedly mentioned by former contestants, that the show is currently focused on mere entertainment to earn views and recover from the setback, rather than hunting real talents.
American Idol Is Accused Of Turning Into A Cash Cow
Premiering the first episode of the show under FOX network in 2002, American Idol began with the motto of finding real talents and offering a platform to the commoners. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, the show later shifted from FOX to ABC network in 2018. After discovering real musical talents like Kelly Clarkson, the show earned a reputation and revenue of nearly $96M with an expanding gross profit margin of 77%. However, currently, the show is losing its loyal audience base.
It is thus claimed that American Idol is no longer the show it used to be. Running after views over discovering and nurturing talents, the show has been accused of turning into a cash cow. Despite the dip in ratings, the show still holds the top position with its business mindset. Unfortunately, American Idol was supposed to be a talent hunt show.
However, it seems the producers are more focused on creating entertainment and bizarre moments to attract views. The publicity-seeking producers of the show are thus accused of scandals over the past years.

Former Contestants Accuse Producers Of Neglecting Real Talents
Prioritizing crazy moments that could create something similar to clickbait, the American Idol producers have been accused of neglecting real talents. In an attempt to earn views, the producers are often found focusing on wannabe contestants who express bizarre behavior, wear weird outfits, and have terrible voices. Former contestants thus report on how the producers are actually ruining the show and the talents.
Appearing anonymously, a former contestant of the show stated, “I tried out for American Idol, and I literally watched them pass up good singers and put through the shi**y ones because they were in costume.” Calling out the producers for being desperate for views, the contestant mentioned, “They don’t care about talent; it’s about getting viewers.” Accusing the show and its producers, dozens of other participants came out publically and slammed the show for its unknown reality.
