“It’s also not my favorite Beatles song”: James Gunn Refused to Honour the Surprising Connection Between The Beatles and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’
Among many aspects of a movie, music is undoubtedly one important factor to consider as it can help enhance or make a particular scene more effective. MCU franchises such as Guardians of the Galaxy directed by James Gunn are known for focusing on inserting pop/rock songs, especially from the 80s into the film. With this fact, there seems to be one song that was worth being included according to fans.
The character of Rocket was named after the Beatles’ song Rocket Racoon by its creators. This seemingly made many people think that the song should have been inserted at some point along with others. However, Gunn seems to have a good reason for not including the particular song.
James Gunn On Why He Did Not Include a Suitable Song From The Beatles In Guardians of The Galaxy Franchise
Without a doubt, James Gunn inserted tons of pop and rock music into his MCU project Guardians of The Galaxy franchise. And as far as it is concerned, he hand-picked them for giving a certain vibe to many of the film scenes. The main protagonist Star Lord or Peter Quill played by Chris Pratt is a big music enthusiast.
And through him, Gunn inserted tons of songs, especially from the 80s into the film scenes. However, there is one song that had the potential, in terms of its connection with Marvel comics to be included in the franchise. A song was written by The Beatles member Paul McCartney in the 1960s titled Rocket Racoon. Although the song lyrics have nothing to do with an actual Raccoon, Marvel Comic creators Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen borrowed the name for their comic character Rocket, a genetically engineered Racoon.
However, the song never made it into the film, and Gunn has a solid explanation for this as he responded via Twitter,
“Because it doesn’t fit our story. It’s also not my favorite Beatles song.”
That seems to be a reason enough for his decision. Also, the song is not a very popular one among the band’s songs. McCartney’s bandmates themselves revealed that the song was not their cup of tea.

More on Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Playlist
There is no doubt that James Gunn did a first-class job while deciding the songs to be included in his MCU franchise Guardians of the Galaxy. The third installment was released in April this year. Peter Quill, the film’s protagonist is a huge music enthusiast as is evident from the way he always has on his music player.
The film helped popularize many of the 80s hits such as Hooked on a Feeling or Come and Get Your Love etc among the current audience.
