  • Jensen Ackles earlier reflected on deep pain caused by the tragic event.

A new update in Alec Baldwin’s trial for the accidental shooting on the Rust movie set has revealed a troubling detail. A crime scene technician testified that a live bullet was found in the prop bandolier of actor Jensen Ackles. It’s been almost three years since cinematographer Halyna Hutchins tragically died from a gunshot on the set of a Western film in New Mexico.

While rehearsing a scene, a gun held by Baldwin accidentally fired a live round. The Hollywood actor claimed he didn’t pull the trigger and has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The bullet also injured Rust‘s writer and director Joel Souza.

CNN reported that during the second day of testimony in Alec Baldwin‘s trial for involuntary manslaughter, technician Marissa Poppell made a revelation. According to a court testimony, it was revealed that investigators found live bullets in different places on the Rust movie set, like on a prop cart, in an ammo box, and in two prop gun holsters owned by Baldwin and Jensen Ackles.

The crime scene technician also mentioned Ackles likely didn’t realize the bullets in his costume bandolier (a device used to hold ammunition) were real. Still, he had them while performing his role on set.

This incident shows how important it is to follow strict safety rules with guns on movie sets, as mistakes can have serious consequences. Apart from the immediate danger it poses, incidents like these can deeply affect actors and crew emotionally. Seeing a fatal shooting on set can cause PTSD and other mental health problems.

Jensen Ackles, famous for his roles in Supernatural and The Boys, was there when cinematographer Hutchins was accidentally shot and killed. In a 2022 interview with USA Today, he talked about the deep pain he felt from that tragic event. The star described it as “horrible,” saying:

You can chalk it up to negligence or try to point a finger at anybody. At the end of the day, it was a horrible, horrible accident that ended with a life. Unfortunately, those do happen all the time around the world everywhere. You don’t normally witness them like I did, and it’s certainly shocking and jarring. It makes you value life even more than you had.

He praised Hutchins’ skills and felt sorry that their project might not get finished. What’s surprising is Ackles isn’t listed in the movie’s credits because he had to leave due to schedule problems before filming ended (as reported by The Hollywood Reporter).

The release date for Rust is currently unknown.
