“It’s fascinating how many people are interested in that”: Ellie Goulding Blames Fan Accusing Her of Cheating on Ed Sheeran as Reason Behind Her 9 Years of Trauma
Ellie Goulding, the British singer, and songwriter, recently made headlines for an interview in which she opened up about her personal struggles with trauma and anxiety. Goulding revealed that she had been dealing with the effects of trauma for the past nine years, and she attributed much of her pain to a false rumor spread by a fan that accused her of cheating on her ex-boyfriend, singer Ed Sheeran. The rumor not only damaged her reputation but also caused significant emotional distress, ultimately leading to her struggles with anxiety and PTSD.

Ellie Goulding, the popular British singer, recently opened up about her traumatic experience with unfounded rumors circulating around her personal life. In an interview with The Guardian, Goulding revealed that she had been accused of cheating on Ed Sheeran with fellow musician Niall Horan. The rumors began to circulate after a photo of her and Horan surfaced online, which was taken at a party that Sheeran was unable to attend due to work commitments.
Last month, Goulding shut down a fan who commented on the rumor on one of her TikTok posts, telling the fan that it was false.
“I think I was really drunk when I wrote that [TikTok comment],” she said. “It’s fascinating how many people are interested in that. It happened nine years ago.”
The “Burn” singer said that she defends Sheeran’s right to use what he wants as inspiration for his songs but she never dated the pop star.
“You know, completely honestly, it caused me a huge amount of… stress is not the word. It caused me a lot of trauma, actually,” Goulding told the publication. “How old were we, 23? I envy the fact that my friends just spent their 20s having flings and one-night stands and what every 20-something goes through in private. But every single thing I did was written about. I was made to feel like a terrible person and I really struggled with that because I know I’m not.”
Goulding said the scrutiny damaged her career and caused her to take a five-year hiatus between her third album, “Delirium,” and her 2020 album “Brightest Blue.”
Ellie Goulding confessed to having a hard time coping with her dating life being scrutinized by the public.
Goulding’s experience highlights the harsh reality faced by many celebrities, who often find their personal lives thrust into the public eye without their consent. The constant media attention and public scrutiny can be overwhelming and exhausting, leading to anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.
