Many criticized the film stating that it had a cheesy style and failed to represent the Batman villain. However, despite all the negative comments and warning not to take the role, Halle Berry remained unbothered.

Halle Berry was made aware of Catwoman‘s reception, but despite that, she did not step away from helming the role. The actress followed her intuitions and eventually met strong criticism. In 2018, the Moonfall star acknowledged the reception of her movie during her acceptance speech for a Matrix Award from  New York Women in Communications. She said:

“Everybody around me said, ‘Girl, don’t do it. It’s going to be the death of you. It’s going to end your career.’ But guess what I did? I followed my intuition and I did a movie called Catwoman and it bombed miserably.”

Though her film wasn’t well-received and people believed it would end her career, Berry decided to take notes of it. She added:

“While it failed to most people, it wasn’t a failure for me because I met so many interesting people that I wouldn’t have met otherwise, I learned two forms of martial arts and I learned not what to do.”

Catwoman made Halle Berry feel empowered, as she did not let the backlash overpower her passion to delve into distinct projects. She has now become one of the industry’s most talented and versatile actresses and is the only African-American woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress.
