It’s Official: Brie Larson & Jeremy Renner Will Have Their Own Disney+ Show

Disney Branded Television announced new titles for Disney+ on Monday, including an unscripted series from Brie Larson and Jeremy Renner:

Disney Branded Television announced new titles for Disney+ on Monday, including unscripted series from Brie Larson and Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner. Growing Up is a documentary produced by Larson. Renner appears in the television series Rennervartions. Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, unveiled these projects, as well as numerous more, during the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour. “We see an opportunity to expand on the great foundation of narrative that is a trademark of the Disney brand with each of these projects,” Davis added (via a press release). “I am so thrilled to be working with some of the industry’s most creative and varied talent, both in front of and behind the camera, to bring these new and reinvented stories to life for our fans to enjoy, regardless of platform.” Growing Up is produced by Culture House. Nicole Galovski, Raeshem Nijhon, and Carri Twigg serve as executive producers, as do Nicole Galovski, Raeshem Nijhon, and Carri Twigg. Yara Shahidi, Sydney Freeland, Elegance Bratton, Ashley Eakin, Ekwa Msangi, Smriti Mundhra, Rudy Valdez, Bernardo Ruiz, Kishori Rajan, and Nicole Galovski will also direct.

Growing Up is a pioneering hybrid docu-series that covers the trials, successes, and complexity of adolescence through 10 captivating coming-of-age experiences. The series follows one cast individual, ages 18–22, as they express their tale using narrative, experimental, and documentary filmmaking. They reflect a vast spectrum of lived experiences, providing audiences with emotionally resonant narratives that provide an interesting look at adolescence and the various societal, familial, and personal difficulties that young people confront on their path to self-discovery and acceptance. Each 30-minute episode focuses on one young person, or “hero,” and their growing-up experience. Each episode is anchored by a highly intimate conversation in which our heroes take us on a journey through their childhood and adolescence. In addition to these conversations, imaginative cinematic reenactments help bring their important turning events to life.
