“It’s really scary”: Jennifer Lopez Says ATLAS Does 1 Thing Correctly Even If Fans and Critics Can’t Stop Criticising the Movie
Jennifer Lopez has been consistently making headlines. If not for her divorce rumors with Batman actor Ben Affleck, then for her new ventures and projects. Her last project The Greatest Love Story Never Told may have failed to impress the masses, but it has not deterred Lopez from striving for more.
The singer-actor has released another movie called Atlas on Netflix. The early reviews for the movie and in and let’s just say that it’s not the biggest career-defining project of her life. However, Lopez still stands by her work and believes in the power of storytelling.
Jennifer Lopez Defends Atlas on One Aspect
Despite less than encouraging reviews from audiences and critics alike, Jennifer Lopez stands by her work in the science fiction movie Atlas. She believes that the movie aptly tells a story of how Artificial Intelligence can go horribly wrong. The modern generation is no stranger to the adverse effects of AI in all aspects of life.
There have been countless instances of AI manipulating people’s beliefs and even propagating fake news. At the premiere of the movie, Lopez spoke to Variety,
I think this movie does a good job of showing how AI could go incredibly wrong, and this is how it could go really right. It’s really scary. Right away we had them stealing our faces. So, yes, [AI] is really scary. I think you should be respectful of AI…We have to be open to all possibilities. These movies that are talking about AI — especially this one — do a really good job of showing both sides.
Lopez’s comments hint towards the circumstance when a skincare brand tried using the singer’s face to promote their brand. They covered her face in wrinkles and marketed the products accordingly. Nonetheless, the technology has now fully permeated the industry and become a force to be reckoned with. If used correctly, AI can be a boon to society. However, some brands and people just cannot move beyond their personal benefit and look at the bigger picture.
What is Atlas About?
Starring Jennifer Lopez, Simu Liu, and Sterling Brown in lead roles, Atlas tells the story of a data analyst agent’s mission to protect the world from a robot going rogue. It tells the story of how artificial intelligence can go awry and threaten the destruction of the entire planet. Directed by Brad Peyton, the sci-fi flick takes the genre to another level and includes aspects like mass destruction and a world reigned by the use of advanced technology.
Arguing both aspects, Atlas tries to bridge a gap between the negative and positive sides of artificial intelligence. If Harlan tries to destroy the world, then another computer program helps Lopez’s character get through the situation without harm. With high-paced action and suspenseful arcs, the movie takes the viewer on a journey to the future where technology is everywhere.
