“It’s so influential to see female athletes”: Natalie Portman Finds Unusual Role Models for Her Children Despite Being Hollywood’s Most Sought After Actress
Natalie Portman founded the Angel City Football club in 2020, thanks to her kids. Portman is an actor, director, and activist who has starred in multiple cult classics throughout the ages. Besides all of that, the Star Wars actress is also a mother and wants her kids to have some great role models to look up to. Therefore, to create a gateway for thousands of women to be that role model and inspire people across the globe, she decided to be the co-founder of the LA-based football club.
The actress shared her experience, plans, and motivation exclusively in an interview with People, at the BMO Stadium of the family sport on Sunday.
Natalie Portman did it all for her kids
Natalie Portman has always been an advocate for many pressing issues and voiced her opinion when she felt was necessary. Thus, when the opportunity presented itself she did not waste time at all. Portman is extremely ecstatic she could be part of a project uplifting women and supporting female athletes all the while making it enjoyable for the audience. It is soccer after all, or as some might call it football, the ultimate sport that can unite everyone on the planet. Natalie Portman spoke with People at the team’s opener on Sunday exclusively. She said,
“Well, that’s the joy of soccer or as many people call it football, that it’s something that really brings people together and is joyful, –And so, you can be supporting something like women’s equity, but also having a great time doing it. It’s just really fun”
Her kids have always been the driving force behind many decisions she partook in, including this one. She previously spoke to Variety stating,
“I feel like it’s the phase of my career where I’m really trying to just impress my kids,”
The actress wanted to set an example for her kids and show them how one can excel when given the right opportunities. She said,
“I think that for all kids, it’s so influential to see female athletes be celebrated as they deserve. I mean, we grew up as girls being expected to idolize male athletes, and we did,—If you see excellence, you can be in awe of it no matter who is being excellent. So, I think that for all our kids, it really gives me tingles thinking about how different their world will be growing up with icons we have on our team.”
Not only her kids she wants to inspire every kid out there. This team is paving the way for thousands.
How Angel City came to life
Natalie Portman joined forces with Kara Nortman and Julie Uhrman to give birth to the small idea they had rather “quickly”. She stated on Sunday during the game,
“It was the three of us coming up with this crazy idea to start a team as a startup and have it be majority female-owned, majority female-run, and of course female sports,—And it’s just been wild, I never imagined in a million years.”
Portman will also be seen executive producing the new HBO docuseries Angel City coming out on March 23rd. People also shared the teaser for the same.
