Actor Ryan Reynolds made headlines in November 2020 after he brought a fifth-tier Welsh soccer club, Wrexham AFC for nearly $2.5 million. The deal was finalized roughly three months later in February 2021.
American actor Mark Consuelos and his wife, TV host Kelly Ripa, adopted a similar tactic as they recently bought an ownership stake in Campobasso 1919, an Italian soccer club. The club is currently playing in the Eccelenza, which is the fifth division of the Italian soccer league. Just like Ryan Reynolds, they will build the club’s media presence, increase commercial activities and look into sponsorship opportunities.

Actor Mark Consuelos and his wife, TV host Kelly Ripa have worked hard for the past few years to build their fortune. Now they have decided to expand their assets by buying an Italian soccer team called Campobasso 1919. The team plays in the Eccelenza league. Consuelos is quite excited to see his team play as he recently stated,
“I think Campobasso is the ultimate underdog story.”
They bought an ownership stake in the club with the help of North Sixth Group, the principal owner and operator of the team. The couple will help in boosting the club’s media presence.
Campobasso was founded in 1919
The couple’s soccer club was founded in 1919. The team once played in the second division but as time passed, its performance deteriorated as it was relegated to the fourth and fifth divisions. In 2021, however, the club climbed back to the third tier of Italian soccer for the first time in 32 years.
Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa’s investment was very crucial for the club as due to administrative failures, the club was about to be kicked out of professional soccer. The club is currently in first place in the fifth division and Consuelos hopes that they secure the position in the future as well.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos will soon buy another club
With the help of North Sixth Group, the couple is planning to buy another club called Ascoli FC, one of Italy’s most historic clubs. This club currently plays in Serie B, the second division. Ascoli FC finished sixth in Serie B last year and qualified for the playoffs to get promoted to Serie A, but unfortunately lost.
