“I’ve been asking for that job”: Not Even Marvel Fame Could Help Scarlett Johansson Land Her 1 Acting Dream She Desperately Wants to Make Her Daughter Happy
Unquestionably, one of the best actresses in the business, Scarlett Johansson has repeatedly shown her talent by landing important roles throughout her career. One of her career-defining performances was as Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that the actress, who is renowned for portraying incredibly strong characters on screen, was also named Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive for the first time in 2006 and is the only woman to have done so twice. However, despite her notoriety and success, the actress has yet to portray a role on screen that would truly make someone close to her happy.
Scarlett Johansson wishes to play a Disney princess
During an interview with The New York Times in 2016, Scarlett Johansson was asked about what experiences she would like to create on-screen for her daughter to grow up witness to which the Black Widow actress said that, since her daughter is young, they both share the dream that Johansson will someday play a Disney princess on-screen.
She said, “I’ve been asking for that job for the past 20 years, and nobody has booked me.” The actress revealed during her appearance on Howard Stern’s show that she still auditions for the role she plays adding that she doesn’t take handouts and works hard for what she wants of course just like the grass is always not green, Johansson is also lost some chances to play great roles on-screen.
She had mentioned that during an audition for Les Misérables, she pointed out that she sang her heart out about wanting to play Fantine, but unfortunately, the role went to actress Anne Hathaway, who won an Academy Award for the same.

Scarlett Johansson was initially turned down for Iron Man 2
In her interview with Variety, while speaking about her career graph, the actress said that she started working at the age of 9 after she appeared opposite Ethan Hawke in the 1993 Off-Broadway play Sophistry, and by the age of 17, she appeared in Sofia Coppola’s critically acclaimed movie Lost in Translation opposite Bill Murray.
The actress also clarified the rumor that she had a miserable time while filming the movie and said,
“It wasn’t miserable. It was challenging because I was very young and away from my high school boyfriend. I was sort of isolated in that environment, and it was just hard work. Looking back on it, the whole thing felt like jet lag.”
Scarlett Johansson also revealed that she got turned down for two roles she wanted to do and one of them was Iron Man 2, adding that it was sort of the straw that broke the camel’s back and she felt frustrated and hopeless, but Emily Blunt, who was signed for Iron Man 2 had to drop out due to her contractual obligation with Fox and it opened the door for Johansson to play Natasha Romanoff on-screen. Explaining her appearance in the movie starring Robert Downey Jr. she said,
“That movie wasn’t going to move the needle forward in terms of how my character was written, but there was potential for what it could be — a potential for growth in subsequent films.”
Scarlett Johansson says saying goodbye to Black Widow was bittersweet
The actress who plays one of the most loved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow, was killed off in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which did make fans upset. Talking about the same in her interview with Variety, Scarlett Johansson said,
“I absolutely loved every filming experience I had, working for 10 years with Marvel and with that amazing cast, and I love the character Natasha. I have a lot of empathy for her, and it was amazing to build that character over such a long period of time.”
The actress lastly said that although saying goodbye to Natasha was bittersweet, she also feels really good about her story coming to a close, noting that she has a lot of dignity in her legacy and she is proud of that.
