Marvel boss Kevin Feige shared that Deadpool & Wolverine made his dream of 25 years come true
Marvel Studios’ biggest and most successful movie of 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine, saw Hugh Jackman reprising his iconic character of Wolverine after seven long years alongside Ryan Reynolds.
In a live virtual appearance at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Kevin Feige went ahead to share the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the audience. He expressed his happiness with the success of Deadpool & Wolverine and shared (via Deadline)
The Marvel boss also added that they were very excited to see Ryan Reynolds bring the R- rating to Disney, noting that it was fun—the heart and the humor.
Back in July, the filmmaker Shawn Levy, in his conversation with ComicBook, shared that Feige only had one requirement for Jackman’s return as Wolverine in the MCU. He noted,
Jackman’s Wolverine remains one of the most beloved and iconic portrayals in the superhero genre. He started portraying the character in 2000, but unfortunately, none of the movies ever saw him don the iconic yellow costume until Deadpool & Wolverine. It felt like the missing piece from Wolverine’s legacy was finally placed.
So, it’s correct to say that it wasn’t just Kevin Feige’s dream to see Wolverine in the yellow costume.
Feige, during his live virtual call, also shared that The Fantastic Four: First Steps wraps filming next week and is scheduled for release in the summer of next year. He also noted that all those characters go right into the next Avengers movie. He is very excited about the future of the Fantastic Four.
Deadpool & Wolverine’s ending was tweaked after Blake Lively’s advice
In a commentary on the movie’s physical release Reynolds and Shawn Levy revealed that the ending of the movie was tweaked a little after actress Blake Lively, who starred as Lady Deadpool suggested the same. The actor shared via Variety
The filmmaker chimed in to say that it used to be that there was no suspense; the power room blew up, and the heroes had survived, and then Lively said to them that as a viewer, she’d like to sit in fear that the heroes are lost.
She said to them that they should let the audience be in the place of suspense so the triumph of the heroes’ survival is more emotional and visceral. Levy continued,
The original ending had the heroes’ fate revealed much earlier, as they save the world by destroying the Time Ripper, but their fate is never in question. The heroes survive the events to see another day. But then after Lively’s suggestion, the ending was changed to make it look like the duo sacrifice themselves and die in order to destroy the Time Ripper.
Their fates are unknown as Macfadyen’s character Paradox gives an impassioned speech. The speech is disrupted by the heroes’ surprise return all while Goo Goo Dolls’ Iris blasts on the soundtrack.
Deadpool & Wolverine is streaming on Disney+.
