“I’ve long admired…”: Oprah Shut Down Rumors of Ongoing Feud With Oscar Nominated Actress
When more celebrities are involved in a major project, the media is bound to find or in some instances create tension between them. The upcoming musical drama movie titled The Color Purple is one such project. The movie is associated with big names such as Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Halle Berry. Like always, rumours of a potential feud spread, taking the limelight away from the interesting movie.
Feud Between Oprah Winfrey and Taraji P Henson
During the press tour for the highly-rated movie The Color Purple, a video spread across social media where Oprah Winfrey and Taraji P Henson are seen together in a tense situation. Quick to grab the loose thread, people started nitpicking the details of the video and came to the conclusion that everything was not right between Winfrey and Henson.

The duo is closely linked to the movie where Oprah is the producer while Henson, the Oscar-nominated actress is playing Shug Avery in the movie. Based on Alice Walker’s novel, the story charts a Black woman’s journey to reuniting with her children and staying away from her abusive husband. Along the way, two other Black women come to her rescue and show her the way. The Color Purple is a unique tale of support and sisterhood, showing how women can encourage and assist each other in life.
Both Oprah and Henson posted appreciation notes on social media and shut down the ridiculous rumours that wished to strike a distance between the two. “What I love about her portrayal of Shug Avery is that she plays her like a woman who not only sang the blues but had lived the blues. Only Taraji could do that,” said Oprah in her Instagram post.

On the other hand, Henson’s post described their real-life sisterhood where Black women must support one another. In a gratitude post to appreciate Oprah’s efforts to make the movie, Henson went on to commend the producer and TV show host for her support and guidance.

Taraji P Henson Almost Quit Hollywood
Previously, the Academy-nominated actress expressed her frustration with the industry that witnesses the immense struggle of Black actors. Henson claimed that she is tired of fighting to make a difference but nothing seems to change. In a conversation with EW, she said,
“I’ve been doing this for two decades and there were times when I just wanted to quit, because I’m tired of fighting. And what pains my heart is that I don’t want to hear these babies have the same fight. I’m like, how can I make it different? How can I make it better? If I’m not in a position to make it better for those coming behind me, what am I doing?”
Movies like The Color Purple are important narratives that need to find their place in modern cinema. People need representation to be seen and heard in a world crowded by too many voices and opinions. Every generation needs to experience such stories with an added layer of the current society’s perspective.
