The movie received not only a 31% rating from reviewers, but also a 42% rating from the audience at Rotten Tomatoes. It was recently reported that The Exorcism received a D CinemaScore, making it very surprising for the audience, who appreciated his performance in The Exorcist despite the movie receiving a low rating at the time of its release.

In an interview with CBR, filmmaker Joshua John Miller expressed his views on his experience working with the Gladiator actor, and he said,

More often than not, I think those larger-than-life personalities do what they do because they’ve been cut from a cloth that’s tattered and ripped, and there’s a tremendous amount of pain, and then add frame to it. I think with Russell, he’s such an incredible maestro of his instrument and work. I don’t get intimidated by a lot of people. I don’t think I was intimidated by him. I just see a volcano in front of me every day.

The director further continued that he just knew that they had to carefully walk around and guide Crowe through the character of Anthony Miller. He described that while working with the actor, he felt as if he were working with someone whose talent was so evident that it was not intimidating. Miller lastly mentioned that he just knew that he had to carefully manage the actor’s spark while bringing on to the screen.

M.A. Fortin, co-writer, also shared during the interview that director James Bridges had described Russell Crowe as someone with sparks and added that they should expect fire while working with him. The movie stars Chloe Bailey, Sam Worthington, Adrian Pasdar, and more.
