J.K. Simmons reveals if he returns for Spider-Man 4
Actor J.K. Simmons, who portrayed the role of J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, reprised his character for Tom Holland starrer Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home in a surprise cameo. Fans were excited to see Simmons back in the Spider-Man universe and now are curious if he’d return for the fourth installment.
In an interview with ScreenRant, the legendary actor was asked if he’s going to return as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man 4, to which he said,
No spoilers. Sorry, I’m not telling.
Some fans are taking his answer as a probable yes, and they are hoping to see him back on-screen soon in Spider-Man 4. However, in the MCU, Jameson, instead of being an editor-in-chief, runs a sensational news site. He hates Peter Parker. Movie Web notes that the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home did leave a door open for the studios to follow the same storyline.
Talking to ComicBook.com last year about his cameo in Far From Home, the actor revealed that his shot was filmed very quickly using an office rather than a stage. He also recalled that maybe the makers did not have enough time to make a wig for him; however, he tried his best to have his character keep the hair.
The actor also revealed that he had never met Tom Holland, adding that people get taken aback when he tells them that he has never met Holland. But he recalled that even at the premiere of the movie, their paths didn’t cross. (via CBM)
Despite not meeting the lead actor, Simmons expressed his admiration for the director Jon Watts, adding that he loves what he is doing with the character. Simmons noted that he admires how Watts has managed to keep the story fresh without losing what made Spider-Man appealing in the first place.
Tom Holland says they have a legacy to protect with Spider-Man 4
In a recent interview, Tom Holland was asked about an update regarding Spider-Man 4, to which he said that they have the best in the business working hard towards whatever the story might be. He added (via CBM),
We have a legacy to protect. The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman had shared that for Tom Holland’s scenes in Avengers: Doomsday, a stunt double will be used because Holland is set to appear in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
According to Max Blizz, the script work for Spider-Man 4 will most likely be completed by March, and they will start filming in the summer of 2025. Holland on the Rich Roll Podcast revealed that he, along with Zendaya, had read the script for the upcoming movie, and it needs work. He said,
I read it three weeks ago, and it lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’
However, he added that there are things they need to figure out before they can get that going. Tom Holland has always expressed how grateful he is for the role.
Spider-Man 4 is expected to release in July 2026.
