Jack Quaid’s New Sinister Role Makes His The Boys and Hunger Games Characters Look Like Child’s Play
- Jack Quaid’s upcoming horror thriller 'Companion' introduces him as a twisted and violent character.
- In the 'Companion' trailer, Quaid’s is seen performing sinister acts with Sophie Thatcher’s character.
- Known for his ethical character in 'The Boys', Quaid’s performance in 'Companion' hints at a career-defining dark turn.
In the fast-changing movie industry, actors are often seen constantly jumping to new roles in order to avoid getting typecast. It gets challenging at times for some as well, especially when they haven’t done anything similar in the past. However, Jack Quaid looks way too prepared for his never-before-seen role in his upcoming movie.
Quaid is most recognized for playing Hughie Campbell in The Boys and Marvel in The Hunger Games. But his newest role in the upcoming film Companion looks completely different. The teaser trailer hints at a character so wicked that it may make people forget that Quaid has ever played a good guy.
Jack Quaid’s Violence in Companion
The upcoming horror thriller titled Companion will portray Jack Quaid as never seen before. The film is written and directed by Drew Hancock and is produced by the team behind Barbarian, Zach Cregger, Raphael Margules, and J. D. Lifshitz.
The movie features a promising cast that includes Jack Quaid, Sophie Thatcher, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend. As it is going to be created by a behind-the-scenes team who have worked on hit horror projects before, Companion raises hopes for horror lovers.
The teaser trailer for the movie begins quite innocently with a text on the screen saying it is from “the studio that brought you The Notebook.” The background music of The Flamingos’ hit I Only Have Eyes for You makes viewers feel as if the movie is about to be a tender love story. But the illusion is rather short-lived.
In the trailer, Quaid’s character is seen with a creepy grin, and he is possibly drugging and threatening Sophie Thatcher’s character at gunpoint. And all this is happening while they are having a candlelight dinner. The next moment, Thatcher is tied to a chair, struggling for her survival.
The contrast between Quaid’s expressions and actions hints at his twisted relationship with Thatcher. The most disturbing scene is when her character burns her hand with the flame of a candle while Quaid continues to watch her with a smile. It looks like Quaid has completely embraced this darker role with conviction.
Jack Quaid’s Dark Evolution
To understand how different Quaid’s role is in Companion, one needs to take a look at his previous projects. Quaid portrayed Marvel in The Hunger Games, where he was someone who has been trained since childhood for the deadly survival game.
He was a ruthless and arrogant character who did not feel sorry for killing others. His most unforgettable scene was when he killed Rue, an innocent tribute. On the other hand, Quaid’s most popular role, Hughie Campbell, is completely different.
Campbell is a regular guy who is thrown into the world of evil superheroes in The Boys. He is probably the most ethical character in the show who struggles with most of the violent methods performed by his vigilante group.
His character arc shows his struggle to maintain humanity amid inner conflicts and chaos, which makes him much more relatable to the viewers. But now, with Companion, Quaid seems to be going much more brutal than what he was in The Hunger Games.
The trailer shows that he is quite enjoying the suffering and fear of others, which is much different from the moral dilemma of Campbell and the straight and trained brutality of Marvel. This time, Quaid looks more like a creepy, psycho killer, something his fans have never seen before, which might redefine his career if worked well.
Companion will be released in theaters on January 10, 2025.
The Hunger Games and The Boys are available to stream on Prime Video.
