Singer Jade Thirlwall rose to prominence as a part of the girl group Little Mix alongside Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards, and Jesy Nelson (Nelson departed the group in 2020). Little Mix is regarded as one of the most successful girl groups, and their music has garnered critical acclaim. After the group went on hiatus in 2022, the singer embarked on her solo career inspired by pop and R&B music.
Thirlwall has been described as one of the biggest pop stars in Britain. After Jesy Nelson’s exit from the band, the three members became closer and tighter and were very close friends. The singer recently spoke about Little Mix during a podcast interview, explaining that they all wanted each other to be equal in the group.
Jade Thirlwall reveals Little Mix members insisted on being ‘equal’
Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall recently appeared on The Louis Theroux Podcast, where she talked about the group, which now consists of Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards. (Jesy Nelson departed the group in 2020.) She mentioned that all of them have always nurtured the bond they’ve created over the years and the fact that they have always insisted on being equal. Thirlwall added,
Jade Thirlwall added that there was no lead singer in Little Mix, and it’s something they had always pushed for. She noted that they have shared vocals like equals, and even when people thought they were being insane, the girls were adamant about sticking to it. Thirlwall recalled that they would count the ad-libs per girl sometimes, or in a video, they would see how many shots each one of them got.
The singer said that they did this to make sure that all of them were on the same page and felt that they were equal. Thirlwall mentions that she does think that it has kept Little Mix going for longer.
During the interview, the singer was asked about how she stays focused on making sure that they’re doing what they love and believe in. She shared that as a group they would always try and have some time to them to sort of probably subconsciously remember what it felt like when they first got together.
Jade Thirlwall mentioned that they knew that they weren’t always going to agree, like anyone, but they made sure that they were all the most important people in their respective careers.

During the interview, the singer also touched upon Jesse Nelson’s departure from the band in 2020. She shared that Nelson was going through a lot of emotional highs and lows, adding that the COVID-19 pandemic was a bit of a catalyst for things just generally slowing down and falling apart.
Jade Thirlwall added,
Earlier, in her conversation with Cosmopolitan, Edwards admitted that she wishes things didn’t end the way they did with Jesy Nelson. Upon leaving, Nelson had stated that the split with the band was amicable but later it was reported that things were clearly not okay between the girls. She stated that they don’t talk and haven’t done so for a long time. She added,
Edwards also added that despite their ups and downs, the days spent with the band were the happiest days of her life. She explained that all they did was laugh together, banter together, cry together, and everything seemed like so much fun. She concluded that they went through a lot in those ten years, but they had each other.
