“James Bond as a villain”: Quentin Tarantino Had a Peculiar Vision For Uma Thurman’s Legendary Samurai Epic
Quentin Tarantino is arguably one of the finest filmmakers in the world who is known for his distinctive style of crafting projects. However, what’s even more intriguing is that the director had a specific vision for Uma Thurman while creating her character in Kill Bill.
The filmmaker was highly praised for his samurai epic Kill Bill which was a perfect blend of genres and captivated the audience like never before. Quentin Tarantino revealed that when he makes a character, he thinks of a particular actor playing the role, and according to that he crafts it. Tarantino disclosed that before David Carradine secured the role of Bill, he envisioned Warren Beatty
Quentin Tarantino’s Distinctive Vision For Kill Bill
Kill Bill is beyond question Quentin Tarantino‘s one of the best epic movies for which he worked immensely hard. During an interview with EW, the filmmaker talked about his distinctive style of creating characters in his movies and also shared that Uma Thurman is the actress for whom he had to work a lot while writing her character. Another noteworthy detail the Inglourious Basterds maker mentioned was about the initial casting of Bill in the movie.

While talking about reinventing a character due to the change in cast members, Quentin Tarantino shared that he made Bill by keeping Warren Beatty in his mind, but eventually, the role was secured by David Carradine and Tarantino had to rework it. He said:
“With Warren, Bill would have been much more of the sexy old lion, a James Bond character — James Bond as a villain. David has a mystical quality and that became more important at the end [of the movie].”
The director explained that he specifically had Warren Beatty playing Bill and he would have played an incredibly sauve character just like the James Bond villain. However, as Carradine helmed the role, he adjusted the character to highlight the actor’s “mystical quality” in Kill Bill which validates the flexibility of Tarantino in his projects.
Quentin Tarantino’s Thoughts About Making Kill Bill a Trilogy
Lauded for the perfect blend of martial arts, action, and storytelling, the interviewer asked Quentin Tarantino if he would ever make Kill Bill a trilogy, to which the director revealed that previously he planned Kill Bill as his “Dollars” trilogy. But to make it happen he would require at least 15 years, and if the third installment comes out, it would likely feature another character in the leading role unlike The Bride played by Uma Thurman. The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star said:
“I was going to do a new one every 10 years. But I need at least 15 years before I do this again. Uma won’t be the star, though she’ll be in it. The star will be Vernita Green’s [Vivica A. Fox’s] daughter, Nikki [Ambrosia Kelley].”
While hinting at the third installment, Tarantino mentioned that Nikki (played by Ambrosia Kelley) the daughter of Vernita Green will lead the film. The Django Unchained director worked immensely hard to put Thurman’s character in the best possible place at the end of Kill Bill, and he would want to keep it untouched despite The Bride being Tarantino’s favorite character.
