DC co-head James Gunn has been in the limelight since being entrusted with the task of the superhero franchise. Gunn is preoccupied with reinventing DC by adding fresh faces and introducing new projects. The DCEU will end this year as a result of Warner Bros. Discovery launching DC Studios to develop a new DC world.

Following Gunn’s and Peter Safran’s takeover of DC’s cinematic universe, the director and writer indicated that animation would play a big role in the franchise. The Guardians of the Galaxy director recently confirmed that animated movies set within the DC Universe will premiere in theaters.

On Threads, a fan posted a question for the DC co-head regarding the upcoming animated film Crisis on Infinite Earths will have a role in his rebooted franchise. Gunn replied that it would not. He was further asked to elaborate on whether future animated films within the DC Universe will have theatrical releases. The filmmaker gave a blunt answer “Yes.”

While the majority of DC projects have been live-action, animation is part of their strategy. The animated series Creature Commandos will be the first entry in the DCU. It will be followed by Gunn’s live-action film Superman: Legacy.
