Initially, there were rumors that the Arrowverse would expand with Green Lantern’s presence in the show. The concept art and the costume ideation were done before Warner Bros posed limitations on the CW show due to conflicting television rights.

So, recently in his newsletter, Arrow co-creator Marc Guggenheim revealed what would have been the costume in which we would have seen Green Lantern in the CW show.

Keith Lau ideated the concept for the costume while designer Brie Thorpe would have executed it. Due to a number of reasons, Green Lantern’s appearance in Arrow didn’t pan out and the character remained just a concept art.

Social media exploded with this revelation as fans were thankful this costume never saw the light of day. With a weird helmet and disparaging colors, the outfit does not portray Green Lantern as he should be portrayed.

On the sets of the movie Superman which is said to be released early next year, we have seen some images where we see Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern dressed in costume. Minimal yet impactful, this iteration seems to be better than what Guggenheim had in mind. While this is still not comic-accurate, fans are hoping we might see a more precise look in the future.

More than costumes, it feels as if James Gunn has intricate ideas for portraying all the DCU characters in the Superman movie to perfection. His eye for detail and the need to have everything in a particular order will help fans enjoy his version that will take cues from the past but ultimately carve a unique niche for itself.

Superman is set to release on July 11, 2025.
