James Gunn: Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner Won’t Have CGI Green Lantern Suit in ‘Superman: Legacy’
The use of CGI became quite controversial when Green Lantern (2011) was released featuring acclaimed actor Ryan Reynolds in the leading role. The CGI-ed costume received immense backlash and to avoid that in the upcoming Superman: Legacy, James Gunn revealed abandoning the use of CGI.
Superman: Legacy featuring David Corenswet as the red-caped protector of Earth will also include other notable superheroes from the DC universe, like Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner. Concerned about the use of CGI, a fan asked James Gunn whether Fillion’s DC costume would be CGI-ed or not.
James Gunn Reacts to The Incorporation of CGI in Superman: Legacy
While the makers are finalizing the actors for James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, a fan asked the filmmaker whether Guy Gardner’s costume will be CGI-ed or not. The use of computer-generated imagery in the 2011 movie Green Lantern received negative comments from fans as the visuals appeared to be incredibly unconvincing. However, James Gunn has made sure to present a realistic experience and mentioned that he does not remember using the technology unless it was a CGI project.

With the help of CGI, filmmakers can easily create intricate and dynamic superhero costumes through digital means. However, they fail to look realistic and natural on the screen, which leads fans to criticize the use of that technology. While Superman: Legacy will focus on Superman’s story, it is equally important to consider other characters’ appearance as it might later become a significant flaw in the project.

What To Anticipate From James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy
James Gunn previously announced that Superman: Legacy featuring David Corenswet in the leading role alongside Rachel Brosnahan who will play the intrepid reporter Lois Lane won’t be following the origin story. This implies that the filmmaker has been working on an entirely new and compelling storyline for his upcoming film. While the director was still writing the project, he did not share many details about the movie.
However, what we do know is that Superman: Legacy will likely be a world of heroes with some of DC’s interesting characters. Another noteworthy detail that turned out to be a surprise for fans is Angela Spica, aka The Engineer being the leading foe in Gunn’s project. The Engineer isn’t normally considered a villainous character, so witnessing her operating as an adversary of Superman will indisputably turn out to be thrilling.
As the makers are currently finalizing actors to complete the cast of Superman: Legacy, a new name is being considered to become a part of this project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 star Miriam Shor is in discussion to secure a role that is currently unexposed.
Superman: Legacy is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
