  • James Gunn's Creature Commandos has been lauded for its wonderful performance.
  • However, fans are not very convinced that this is the best that he could do with this iconic villain.
  • The series is renewed for a second season and a star has already revealed what he would like to see.

The rebooted DCU officially kickstarted with the animated TV show Creature Commandos featuring the eponymous DC Comics team of military superhumans. Written and created by James Gunn, the show sees the government official and A.R.G.U.S. director, Amanda Waller form a black ops team of monsters.

The first season of the show recently came to an and a second season is in the works. While this first season has earned mostly positive reviews, it failed to do justice to one iconic DC villain and it has not escaped fans’ notice as they claim that it could have been done better.

James Gunn is well-known for his love of superhero comics. It is this love that helped him create the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for Marvel Studios and it is also this love and years of hands-on experience in the industry that landed him the position of the co-CEO of DC Studios alongside longtime collaborator Peter Safran.

So, when Gunn is involved in a project, fans best believe that it is going to be good. Creature Commandos and Superman are the first series and movie of the rebooted version of the DC Universe respectively, and Gunn is personally involved in both those projects.

Although the show has been mostly praised, there is one complaint that fans have about the villain Circe’s arc as they believe that the character was not used to its full potential. Not to mention that her backstory was also not well explored. Here is what some fans had to say:

Considering Circe is a powerful sorceress from Themyscira, the same place from where Wonder Woman comes, it was expected that she would have a stronger character than this. She would have proved to be a great villain if Gunn had written her better, especially since fans were so excited to see her in action.

As of now, there is no Wonder Woman project in development and Gal Gadot’s version is definitely not happening. So, introducing Circe and not using her to her full potential has struck a bitter chord with viewers. Hopefully, Gunn will find a way to compensate for this.

Following the positive response to the first four episodes of Creature Commandos, a day before Christmas, Gunn announced that the show would be returning for a second season in an X post, but did not reveal anything else about the tentative release date or the cast.

Upon being asked whether or not there will be a second season, Rick Flag Sr. actor Frank Grillo told GamesRadar+:

I’d love to see how it evolves. I’d like to see I’d like to see how they develop as a team because it takes the whole season for them to be a symbiotic kinda group and just see where it goes. Because it starts with me meeting them and kind of going like, what am I doing? What are these things? And then we become a family.

It will certainly be interesting to see where the team goes from where it is now. That said, hopefully, Gunn can give an update on the release of the second season after he gets done with Superman and Peacemaker 2, which are scheduled for release this year.

Creature Commandos is available for streaming on Max.
