Given that the entire DCU is getting revamped, we will be seeing a new face for every hero along with new heroes being introduced in the movies. The recent speculations suggest James Gunn is on the lookout for an actress to put on the cape and be Supergirl in the reboot. The superhero has had a series for herself in the past, but to see her as a central character in the movies will be a delight for all fans.

The movie is reportedly titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and is based on the eponymous comic. DC Studios is screen-testing young actresses of fame to take on the Girl of Steel mantle. Possible actresses on the radar include Milly Alcock, Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly. It was first said that the makers are in the mood to make offers to actresses but then they seem to have changed their minds and plan to test if the actresses fit the bill.

Milly Alcock is best known for her role in House of the Dragon where she plays a young heiress who is fierce and resilient. On the other hand, Emilia Jones has been seen in Locke and Key, CODA, and Youth. Most people think Meg Donnelly has a good chance of bagging the role since she has already experienced the world in Supergirl’s shoes by voicing the character in Legion of Superheroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.

What Will Supergirl Be About?

Written by Ana Nogueira, the story will reportedly be better than anything we have seen yet. Gunn has incredible faith in the writer and the script she has penned for the flick. We last saw Supergirl in The Flash and was played by Sasha Calle. However, the actress will not be reprising her role since her contract was formed by the older DCU reps. While announcing the Supergirl movie, Gunn said,

“In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

New faces will certainly bring new charm to the characters. Every actor has their own way of moulding the role and adapting to its eccentricities. With David Corenswet as Superman, we can’t wait to see who will play the role of Supergirl, his cousin.
