James Gunn’s Superman Legacy Reportedly Casts Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Star for David Corenswet Movie
Superman Legacy is the first movie by James Gunn in the revamped and rebooted DC universe. So far, breadcrumbs of information have been given about the upcoming movie, like the release date, the filming start date, and two of the main cast members. However, most of the details about the cast of the movie are kept under wraps. Nothing much is known about the tale of the last son of Krypton except for rumors flying around.
Recently, one of the rumors that came to light was that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Miriam Shor had been reportedly cast in Superman Legacy. Fans have had quite an interesting reaction to the news so far.
Miriam Shor has been cast in Superman Legacy
Miriam Shor rose to prominence for the Off-Broadway rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, later appearing in the film version of the same. Since then, she has played some prolific roles in Bedazzled, The Cake Eaters, Lost Girls, and Maestro. In 2023, she appeared in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as Recorder Vim and earned major praise for her role.

Recently, The Hollywood Handle took to X (formerly Twitter) to let fans know that Daniel Richtman, a trusted insider, has said that Miriam Shor is all set to appear in Superman Legacy as the head of the CIA. The fact that she has appeared in the MCU before should not be a constraint since James Gunn has been known for his crossover casting since his Suicide Squad days. Many of these actors, who are part of the James Gunn Cinematic Universe, are either good friends of the director or have proven themselves indispensable to him through their work. So, they are frequently seen in the director’s projects, no matter in what cinematic universe he is working in.
When the rumor circulated on X, many users had some funny takes on it.

Sean Gunn has reportedly joined the Superman Legacy cast as Maxwell Lord
According to reports via Deadline, Sean Gunn will be taking over the role of Maxwell Lord in the upcoming Superman Legacy movie. Maxwell Lord is seen as an evil DC businessman. However, James Gunn took to Threads to imply that he might not be a villain in his version of Superman, calling it a “bit reductionist” for the general public to find Maxwell Lord a villain.

Created by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire, Maxwell Lord first appears in Justice League #1 (May 1987). In this version, Maxwell Lord is actually a fiercely intelligent and cunning businessman who plays a major role in establishing the Justice League.
J.M. DeMatteis also took to Threads to weigh in on the topic and confirmed that in the original version, Maxwell Lord is not supposed to be a villain and hoped that James Gunn would go with the original vision for the character.
Superman Legacy will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
