The Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel at last. With the roaring success of Deadpool & Wolverine, not only did they reignite the love in fans but also welcomed the X-Men into the fold for greater integration in the future. Now, fans want the OG X-Men to return to their respective roles including James McAvoy who played Charles Xavier.

With the two worlds colliding, Marvel has a chance to do something exceptionally unique or bomb at the box office with a cliche and overdone trope. It all depends on how the studio brings the two franchises together and ensures they complement each other rather than a head-on clash.

Atonement actor James McAvoy left quite an impression on fans with his performance as Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies. He played the telepathically superpowered mutant to perfection, embodying his intelligence and ability to make peace among the mutants. The actor felt his career skyrocket after the movies and went on to star in many diverse projects.

As Marvel recently acquired Fox Studios, it can finally bring the two worlds together and play around storylines from comics that bring the Avengers and X-Men face to face. Deadpool & Wolverine has already paved the way for the same, but what’s next? McAvoy recently shared his take on the same with Josh Horowitz,

One of the most beautiful things about the X-Men and one of the things that always strikes me when the fans talk to you about it is that the reason that they love it is that it has a parallel with disenfranchised people that have been ghettoized with ethnic minorities with sexual minorities with any kind of person that mainstream society is scared of and there are large amounts. They get pushed down and pushed off to the sides of society and that’s what the mutants represent. They’re not the same necessarily as the handful of Heroes that are regarded as demigods in the Avengers. So, if you fold them in does that then get rid of that social commentary?

The actor brilliantly paints a contrast between the two powerful groups of beings. Their narratives are completely different and it almost feels like they belong to different worlds. Avengers are superpowered beings with a godly status who also have fans across the world. They are the face of American justice and the answer to every evil. On the other hand, the mutants are willfully sidelined and neglected at every stage of their interaction with humans as the latter feel a threat to their existence due to the former.

Both groups also have a very juxtaposed relationship with human beings of their worlds. So, bringing them together would require a very extraordinary situation where their individual opinions don’t matter. Nonetheless, we saw how hard it was to have all the heroes work harmoniously in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. It’ll be an interesting sight to have both Avengers and X-Men leave behind their pasts and paint a bright future together that upholds the spirit of both groups.

It seems to be very probable that Marvel is experimenting with the horror genre and bringing in more supernatural elements to their narratives as a basis for the next few phases. Robert Downey Jr. swooped in as Doctor Doom to save the ongoing Marvel phases. However, the studio might try something new soon with series like Agatha All Along. After the success of WandaVision, Marvel soon announced a spinoff to delve into the history of Agatha, a witch who is capable to black magic.

Previously, Marvel released Werewolf by Night and some elements of Moon Knight also pointed at supernatural elements that might just be the recipe for success for Marvel in the future. The performance of Agatha All Along might factor into the studio’s future direction related to the overarching genre.

The first two episodes of Agatha All Along are streaming on Disney+.
