Spider-Man is one of the most beloved Marvel superheroes. The primary reason is that spectators find him relatable as he struggles to strike a balance between his responsibilities of saving the world around him and his personal life as Peter Parker. Over the years, the character has been adapted for shows and movies alike.

So far, the character has been adapted into three major live-action film series. All of them have been quite successful, although the one starring Andrew Garfield in the lead role remains the one that got the most cold shoulders. The one with Tom Holland in the lead role has been performing well and has even earned over $1 billion with three movies.

Jon Watts has stepped down as the director of the Marvel Studios and Sony co-produced the film series with Holland. Recently, The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is being considered for the responsibility.

This has convinced fans that Shang-Chi will be there in the movie. Here is what some of them had to say on the internet:

Cretton has also directed the Disney+ series Wonder Man, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and is currently in post-production. There has been no official announcement regarding him taking on the role of the new Spider-Man movie director yet.

So, fans might have to hold their breaths for as long as this is not confirmed or that Shang-Chi will join him. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and former Sony head Amy Pascal will produce the movie. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are working on the script.

Shang-Chi debuted in 1973’s Special Marvel Edition #15 by co-creators Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin. His first interaction with Spider-Man was in 1974’s Giant-Size Spider-Man #2. In this comic, the martial arts master was wrongly acquitted of crimes that his father had committed in reality.

He was pitted against Spider-Man by his father Zheng Zu, Shang-Chi’s father. The fight between the two superheroes ended in a tie and they not only called a truce, but also prevented Zheng from accomplishing his evil goals.

They also teamed up in 1979’s Marvel Team-Up #84-#85. The story also featured Nick Fury and Black Widow. This time, they were fighting against the terrorist Viper who was aiming to crash a S.H.I.E.L.D. Heli-Carrier into the United States Capitol to wreck the American Government.

In 1993’s Captain America #413, Shang-Chi and Spider-Man were part of a team that also included Captain America and the Falcon. Together, these superheroes defeated a group of supervillains who were Spidey’s nemesis.

In 2011’s Amazing Spider-Man #664, after Spider-Man lost his spider senses, Shang-Chi taught him Spider-martial arts. They have also collaborated on other comics, the most recent of which is Gene Luen Yang and Dike Ruan’s 2021 series Shang-Chi.
