Jenna Ortega Reportedly Had a Very Selfish Reason for Leaving Scream 7 – It Wasn’t About Supporting Melissa Barrera
The Scream franchise has been under the spotlight for the past few days since they fired one of the leading cast members, Melissa Barrera, followed by Jenna Ortega abandoning the franchise. There have been many speculations surrounding Ortega’s departure linked to her co-star’s exit.
Many fans believed that the Wednesday star did a wonderful job by ditching Scream 7 to support Melissa Barrera. However, another intriguing fact has emerged: the real and selfish reason why Ortega left the horror movie. It is reported that Jenna Ortega, who has become an influential figure in the industry, demanded a higher paycheck that Spyglass couldn’t offer her.
The Self-Centered Reason Why Jenna Ortega Left Scream 7
Seems like the Scream franchise is going to face the worst time as fans were already furious after news broke that they fired one of the leading actresses Melissa Barrera, and now, strikingly her on-screen sister Jenna Ortega has also left the franchise. Previous reports suggested that the Babysitter actress abandoned the horror movie due to scheduling conflicts, but now, according to a fresh report via The Hollywood Reporter, Ortega left the seventh installment due to paycheck issues.
As a rising star, especially after Netflix’s massive hit Wednesday, Jenna Ortega has become one of the most lauded and expensive actresses in the entertainment industry. However, Spyglass’s head Gary Barber believes that higher paychecks and salaries are not essential for the franchise to generate success as it did even without previous leading actor Neve Campbell, who also desired increased pay.
These casting conflicts will likely affect the seventh installment’s success as fans are already furious over the departure of the two key figures who played the Carpenter sisters in Scream 6. The upcoming movie, whose script isn’t finished, was planned to focus on Barrera and Ortega’s roles, but as none of them remained, this has resulted in a creative pivot for Spyglass.
Who Will Replace The Carpenter Sisters in Scream 7
It’s quite obvious for viewers and fans to express their disappointment and frustration over the makers after two of their favorite actors won’t be making it to the next installment. Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera played sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter in the last two Scream movies, and the rumored trilogy was set to end in the next installment which is Scream 7. Fans have increasingly expressed their disappointment with Spyglass since the news broke:
They fired Melissa Barrera from Scream 7 and now Jenna Ortega is also out because of “schedule conflicts” I know that’s RIGHT!
Fuck Paramount and fuck Spyglass.

However, as both the leading stars have gone, the makers have to rethink the whole storyline without Ortega and Barrera. This casting conflict raises another big question: who will replace the Carpenter sisters?
According to Variety, Scream 7 is set for a reboot without the two on-screen sisters looking for a way out of the Ghostface shrine. To do justice to the Carpenter sisters, the makers might think of bringing back actors from the original Scream like Neve Campbell who had a salary dispute resulting in her departure.
Scream 6 is available on Netflix.
