It is almost impossible to imagine the lives of the public without any impact of politics. Although it might not be apparent in day-to-day lives, it largely shapes the lifestyle of people, be it common public or celebrities.
However, much like politicians, voters also share different views on politics. The more contrasting the representatives are, the more differences will show up in the opinions of their supporters. And it looks like Jennifer Lawrence and Sydney Sweeney have experienced it at a very personal level.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Political Opinions Clashed With Family Interests
The impact of politics can be understood by examples where it has created differences among families. Jennifer Lawrence, who is known for being outspoken and honest, reportedly faced some rift in her family during the 2016 elections when Donald Trump became the president by defeating Hillary Clinton.
In an earlier interview with Vogue, Lawrence condemned Trump’s win over Clinton by saying,
It breaks my heart because America had the choice between a woman and a dangerous, dangerous jar of mayonnaise. And they were like, ‘Well, we can’t have a woman. Let’s go with the jar of mayonnaise.’
In the interview, she opened up about how she believed people “have to be political” if they are living in America, and it is more urgent now than ever before as she believed “politics are killing people.” She said, “I can’t f— with people who aren’t political anymore.”
Earlier in 2020, in an appearance on Dear Media’s Absolutely Not podcast, Lawrence revealed that she “grew up Republican” and her family’s opinions align with that. However, the actress also revealed that her opinions started changing as she began to work everywhere. She realized that Republican’s “social issues weren’t in line with [her] views.”
Lawrence mentioned in her Vogue interview that the political differences did cause some rifts in her family. However, she admitted to working to regain the relationship with her family. She said,
I just worked so hard in the last five years to forgive my dad and my family and try to understand: It’s different. The information they are getting is different. Their life is different. I’ve tried to get over it and I really can’t.
Although Lawrence revealed that she has worked to repair the relationships, she stood true to her political views. She said,
I don’t want to disparage my family, but I know that a lot of people are in a similar position with their families. How could you raise a daughter from birth and believe that she doesn’t deserve equality? How?
Lawrence has been endorsing Democratic candidates. Earlier she was seen supporting Joe Biden, and recently she was seen campaigning for Kamala Harris by spending time with young voters in Las Vegas.
Sydney Sweeney Clarified Her Alleged Support for Donald Trump
Just like Jennifer Lawrence, Sydney Sweeney has also experienced the impact of politics in her family. It started when Sweeney shared Instagram posts of her mother’s 60th birthday, which she deleted as soon as the backlash erupted.
According to USA Today, the people present in the party seemed to be supporting Trump. One person was apparently seen wearing the U.S. flag with a thin blue line, which is believed to be a symbolic interpretation of “Blue Lives Matter”.
Moreover, images shared by Sweeney’s brother showed people wearing “Make Sixty Great Again” caps, which sounds similar to “Make America Great Again.” All these references sparked speculations among netizens that Sweeney was supporting Trump.
However, Sweeney told Variety that most of those people were not her family members. She said,
The people in the pictures weren’t even my family. The people who brought the things that people were upset about were actually my mom’s friends from L.A. who have kids that are walking outside in the Pride parade, and they thought it would be funny to wear because they were coming to Idaho.
Sweeney also clarified her stance and addressed the controversy on X, stating it was all an “innocent celebration” and urging people to “stop making assumptions.” However, being a public figure and sharing snippets of personal life with alleged political references during sensitive times seemed to backfire on Sweeney and her family.
