Jennifer Lawrence’s Most Daring Confession About Husband Cooke Maroney Isn’t Something She Ever Said About Nicholas Hoult or Other Exes
- Unlike her previous relationships, Jennifer Lawrence expressed deep affection for Cooke Maroney.
- Lawrence found it easy to commit to Maroney, unlike her exes.
- Lawrence, however, maintains a healthy relationship with her exes.
Jennifer Lawrence has not been very shy about discussing her personal life, especially her relationships, though she has not had the smoothest experience in her romantic life. The Oscar-winning actress has been rumored to have dated some of her co-stars, musicians, and directors in the movie industry.
However, it wasn’t until she met with art gallery director Cooke Maroney that Lawrence began to make statements about love she had never made before. By that time, Lawrence had gone through some failed relationships, and her view about relationships also changed significantly.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Love for Cooke Maroney
Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney met through a mutual friend in 2018, and there was something that felt different at first sight. While speaking on Catt Sadler’s podcast Naked with Catt Sadler (via People), the actress said something about Maroney that stood out from anything she had ever said about her ex-boyfriends.
He’s my best friend. I want to legally bind him to me forever. And, fortunately, the paperwork exists for such a thing. You find your favorite person on the planet, and you’re like, ‘You can’t leave!’
Lawrence’s affection for Maroney was even more expressed when she referred to him as “the greatest human being” she had ever met and that she felt “very honored to become a Maroney.” Lawrence echoed a similar sentiment in an interview with Entertainment Tonight during the premiere of X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
According to Lawrence, staying with Maroney was “a very easy decision” for her since “he’s just the best person” she has ever come across. The actress also mentioned on Catt Sadler’s podcast that she wanted to marry Maroney immediately and “wanted to commit fully.”
This was unlike the kind of feelings she had expressed about her ex-boyfriends, whether it was Chris Martin, Darren Aronofsky, or even Nicholas Hoult. In contrast, a source close to Lawrence told People about her relationship with Martin that she was “tired of him being so noncommittal.”
Similarly, Lawrence also revealed going through some existential crisis to ABC News after she broke up with Hoult. However, the story is different in the case of Maroney. A source told People earlier that he “doesn’t treat her like a celebrity like the other boyfriends did,” which is probably why Lawrence loves being with him.
Jennifer Lawrence Remains Friends with Her Exes
The only long-term relationship in Lawrence’s life before Maroney was probably with Nicholas Hoult. Their romance began in 2010 during the filming of X-Men: First Class, starting a five-year relationship that ended in 2014.
Although Lawrence and Hoult ended their romantic relationship, they maintained their professional friendship. They worked together again in Dark Phoenix, which came out in 2019, which was around the same time when Lawrence got engaged to Maroney.
In an interview with Elle magazine, Hoult confessed that working with his old cast and known faces, including Jennifer Lawrence, was “like going back to school after the summer holidays.” Lawrence is anyway known for being friendly, and her openness with her ex-boyfriends is a major part of her personality.
In an interview on WTF with Marc Maron in 2018, Lawrence said,
I’m friends with all my exes, actually..For the most part, yeah, I have a theory: I think it’s because I’m blunt. I don’t think that you can have any sort of bad relationship with anybody if you’re just blunt.
Although Lawrence has good things to say about her exes, even referring to Hoult as “a great boyfriend” while talking to Marc Maron, these compliments were never as passionate as she is about Maroney. And their relationship milestones reflect their bond as the couple prepares to welcome their second child soon.
