Not many characters were able to survive the disaster that was the Justice League. One of this was Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. He was certainly set up to be a major antagonist in the DCEU starting with Batman v Superman. But once the DCEU quietly rebooted itself after Justice League, he was forgotten as well. Even though WB has given up on Snyder’s version of the DCEU but Jesse Eisenberg is still willing to give it a shot.

It wasn’t just Justice League’s titanic-like disaster at the box office which led to Jesse Eisenberg being ousted from the franchise. Many fans didn’t like his portrayal of Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Of course many didn’t the movie overall as well and wished that it was never made. But there were some pockets of fans who wanted to see what he could do later on with the character. Jesse shares the same views. He always wanted to keep on playing Superman’s arch nemesis.

In a recent interview to promote the upcoming sequel to Zombieland titled Zombieland: Double Tap, Eisenberg once again expressed his eagerness regarding the iconic role. He said:

Oh, 1000% Which is not even… that’s ten pies. Ten full pies. Yeah, of course. Yeah. I loved it so much. I mean, I was the shyest kid in the world. To get to play a character with flamboyance like that is exhilarating. I probably won’t do another. I don’t know if they’re making another one where I would be in it. But no, I loved it. It was great. I’m so happy I got to do it. Ever.”

Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor Probably Won’t Return To The DCEU

Jesse’s enthusiasm for the role and for DCEU is apparent. But it’s highly unlikely that he will get a chance to rejoin DCEU as Lex Luthor again. The franchise has moved far away from Zack Snyder’s plans and aesthetics. It has instead opted to focus on brilliant standalone franchises and movies like Aquaman, Shazam and Joker rather than investing in a shared universe. While it’s sad to see Jesse not get to explore a beloved character more but moving away from Snyder’s vision has been the best for DCEU.
