John Lennon Excluded His Son From The Will

John Lennon and  Cynthia Powell were college sweethearts. They were fellow students at the Liverpool College Of Arts. They got married in 1962 and welcomed their son Jullian in 1963. However, due to John Lennon’s fling with Japanese artist Yoko Ono, the couple separated in 1968. The Imagine singer and his eldest son Jullian Lennon had a very distant relationship with each other. The relationship between John Lennon and his first wife Cynthia Powell started crumbling down after Jullian was born.

In an interview with  The Telegraph in  1998 called his father a hypocrite and spoke about the way John Lennon managed his family. The songwriter went on to say-

“I have to say that, from my point of view, I felt he was a hypocrite,” he said. “Dad, could talk about peace and love out loud to the world, but he could never show it to the people who supposedly meant the most to him: his wife and son.”

He added-

“How can you talk about peace and love and have a family in bits and pieces — no communication, adultery, divorce? You can’t do it, not if you’re being true and honest with yourself. If you bring a child into this world, whether it’s planned or an accident, you’d better make sure you can care for it.”

Julian Lennon lived with his father and his then-love interest May Pang. The separation settlement of the music legend with his first wife Cynthia Powell included £2,400 each year for their son Julian and a trust of £50,000 which would have been inherited by their son at the age of 25. However, the Japanese wife of John Lennon, Yoko Ona manipulated him in such a way that he excluded Julian from his will.

According to the Antonelli & Antonelli law firm, Julian fought for his claim and went on to secure a $25 million settlement. As per the law firm, under New York law, Julian Lennon should have been entitled to a quarter of John Lennon’s fortune amassing around $200 million as an inheritance. However, the 25% is nothing but only 12.5% of what he could have received from the will.

The father-son duo tried to keep the inheritance issues aside and tried to maintain a cordial relationship with each other before he was shot down in 1980.

John Lennon’s Controversial Letter To Paul McCartney

The Beatles, the most influential rock band of the ’60s comprised four talented members- John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney. The Beatles was an inspiration for musicians and songwriters around the world. The band broke up in 1970. There are multiple reasons that could be attributed to the breaking up of the band. The death of their manager Brian Epstein, the strain of the Beatlemania,  Paul Mc Cartney’s dominance, and John Lennon’s heroin use were a few reasons stated for the split.

John Lennon had written a heartbreaking letter to his bandmate Paul McCartney. The duo had a very unstable relationship. Both of them had a tremendous fan following around the world.

However, a small of the letter stated-

It’s all very well playing ‘simple, honest ole’ human Paul’ in Melody Maker … [but] if you’re not the aggressor (as you claim), who the hell took us to court and s–t all over us in public?”

While acknowledging the financial issues the late singer had to face after the splitting of the band, he accused a significant band group member’s politics that led to the disintegration of the band. The late songwriter said-

Your politics are very similar to [conservative activist] Mary Whitehouse’s,” adding, “Saying nothing is as loud as saying something.”
