‘1 Million Dollars… Mr. Depp will donate to charities’: Johnny Depp Decimates Amber Heard’s Public Image, Actually Donating Settlement Money to Charity Unlike Heard’s Fake Charity Promises
After both parties settled defamation claims against each other, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard broke their bitter loosen string. It was one of the most talked about stories in 2022 when Amber Heard accused the Pirates of the Caribbean star of mistreatment and sexual abuse, but the verdict came out in her husband’s favor. The final settlement was reached between the two sides in which Amber Heard’s insurance company agreed to pay her ex-husband $1 million.
Pirates of the Caribbean star, however, reportedly plans to donate the settlement money to several charities instead of keeping it, unlike his ex-wife’s failed promises to donate the divorce settlement amount to charities. Amber Heard said earlier this week in her Instagram statement that she had difficulty accepting the settlement, but she had no choice but to make this decision because she could not afford an additional trial financially and emotionally.
Johnny Depp Officially Will Donate $1M Settlement Money
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp reached a mutual settlement in their defamation case trial as the Aquaman star exhausted her efforts to fight more. As a result of her inability to prove her case on every aspect of this case, she settled with her former husband, in which she had to agree to pay him $1 million. Depp’s lawyer explained in the statement how the Pirates of the Caribbean star intended to use the money.
Depp’s attorneys, Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez wrote,
“We are pleased to formally close the door on this painful chapter for Mr. Depp, who made clear throughout this process that his priority was bringing the truth to light.”
“The jury’s unanimous decision and the resulting judgment in Mr. Depp’s favor against Ms. Heard remain entirely in place.”
“The payment of one million dollars – which Mr. Depp is pledging and will donate to charities – reinforces Ms. Heard’s acknowledgment of the conclusion of the legal system’s rigorous pursuit for justice.”
Depp’s attorneys announced after the settlement that he would donate his $1 million settlement payment to multiple charities. It appears that Depp and Heard have ended their appeals claims even though no formal paperwork has been filed in Virginia court dockets.
Repercussions of Amber Heard’s False Promises of Donation
Amber Heard announced in 2016 that she would donate the entire $7 million she received from Johnny Depp’s divorce settlement to charity. According to reports, she announced that two organizations would receive the money: the American Civil Liberties Union and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Reports suggested that when Depp’s trial for defamation against Heard began in 2018, Heard testified that she had received the total settlement amount by October 2018. Around the same time, she informed the media that she had already made the donation.
However, an ACLU executive testified earlier in the trial that the organization never received the full $3.5 million promised; only a $1.3 million donation amount was obtained, not even half of the promised amount.
According to a media outlet, Insider, Amber Heard gave an explanation in the defamation trial and said,
“I still fully intend on honoring all of my pledges. I would love him to stop suing me so I can.”
According to her testimony in the defamation case trial, Heard said she still intended to donate all the money she promised. Still, Depp’s lawsuit seeking damages of up to $50 million, prevented her from doing so.
Later, Terence Dougherty, the general counsel and chief operating officer of the ACLU, presented an unsigned pledge form laying out how Heard could pay the total of $3.5 million over 10 years to the jury.
