Google recently released its “Google’s Year in Search – Themes and Insights” for 2022. The report shows the list of the most searched actors in the year. The list rolled out by the company contained big names. At the top was Johnny Depp, who won the defamation case against Amber Heard. The list reflected data on the year’s trending topics, that is, the searches that received traffic for a sustained period this year in comparison to last year.

While Depp dominated the search list, he was followed by Will Smith and his ex-wife Amber Heard. The Depp-Heard trial became a prominent reason for people to search on Google. The Pirates star became the top searched actor overall, while Heard ranked third in terms of trending search.

Johnny Depp won his defamation case, topped Google’s trending people list

The search engine on Wednesday rolled out its 2022 Year in Search report. The person placed at the top of the list was Johnny Depp. The actor recently won his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp sued Heard in 2019 for defamation when she claimed to be a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” The trial began in April, and the jury ruled out its decision in favor of Depp in June. 

While Depp placed at the top of the list, Heard was third in the top trending celebrity list. At the second spot in Google’s 2022 list was Will Smith for his Oscar incident. Smith slapped Chris Rock during Oscar 2022 in March. Rock made fun of Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, on stage resulting in his reaction against the comedian. In Google’s trending list, Rock took the fourth position while Jada Smith was seventh.

Ortega became popular after her supernatural series Wednesday aired on Netflix. She has received appreciation from the audience for her role as Wednesday Addams. According to the reports, Ortega’s Instagram saw a sudden surge post the release of her show. In terms of day speed, Ortega has beaten Depp in gaining Instagram followers. Johnny Depp had 5.8 million followers in 2020 before the trial. His total count of followers was 16 million before the libel case got started and now it is 27.9 million.
