Fun cameos from projects that stars previously worked on are always a joy to see on screen. From the TV series 21 Jump Street to the superhit movie that defined the genre, one thing that remained common was Johnny Depp. The Pirates of the Caribbean star has been an integral part of the industry for so long that getting him on board for a cameo was tough.

Filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller had a vision in mind to create a movie based on the TV show, but they needed Depp’s involvement for certain. Depp played Officer Hanson in the show and killed it in his portrayal.

Actor Johnny Depp’s fame back in the 2010s rose to unimaginable levels, especially after his blockbuster franchise Pirates of the Caribbean took off. He was interested in being a part of the 21 Jump Street movie but posed one condition to come on board. Depp could have asked for a lot more money or longer screen time. However, the actor chose to bring back his series co-star for the cameo scene.

Furthermore, Depp wanted to introduce his and Peter DeLuise’s characters in haste and kill them off after only a brief moment. This would add the fun surprise element in the movie but won’t steal the spotlight from the actual heroes of the comedy flick.

According to Slash Film, it all worked out super fine for the filmmakers and the actors of 21 Jump Street as Jonah Hill also thought of the same thing for Depp’s cameo. The only difference is in Hill’s vision as he wanted to kill Depp’s character sooner.

Fans are happy that Hill didn’t get his way with that scene as the resultant moment is one of the funniest aspects of the movie. Schmidt kills Hanson as soon as the pistol lands in his hands, staying true to his clumsy character.

The divorce lawsuit and further legal proceedings with Amber Heard have certainly impacted Depp’s name in the industry. Nevertheless, for a man of his reputation and stature, it’s hard for anyone to malign his name. Depp has always been revered as a hard-working and dedicated actor and he continues to thrive in his craft.

Depp’s next movie seems to be with director Terry Gilliam titled Carnival at the End of Days. Production for the movie is said to be scheduled for January 2025 along with more major cast members. The movie appears to be a drama-comedy involving God wiping out humans while Satan, the man we least expect, tries to save the world. No release date for the movie has been announced yet.
