Joseph Quinn’s ‘Gladiator 2’ Transformation for Ridley Scott’s Upcoming Epic is Reminding Fans of a Certain Game of Thrones Villain
Directed by Ridley Scott, Gladiator II is an epic historical action drama movie starring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Denzel Washington, and more. The movie is serving as the sequel to 2000 Gladiator, starring Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, and more. The story for the upcoming sequel is going to follow Lucius, a former heir to the Roman Empire who becomes a gladiator after his home is invaded by General Marcus Acacius.
Gladiator II is one of the highly anticipated movies; being a sequel to one of the most highly appreciated movies, and secondly, the exceptionally skilled casting for the movie. Fans are excited to see what magic these talented actors can make on screen, and to their delight, the first pictures from the movie which were recently released, are quite satisfactory. Except one actor’s look from the movie reminds fans of a certain character from Game of Thrones.
Joseph Quinn’s first look from Gladiator 2 has uncanny resemblance to Game of Thrones’ Cersei Lannister
The first pictures from long-awaited Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 were released via Vanity Fair, starring Paul Mescal as Lucius, Pedro Pascal as Marcus Acacius, Joseph Quinn as Emperor Geta, Denzel Washington as Macrinus, and more. Actor Paul Mescal spoke to Vanity Fair, where he mentioned his transformation in terms of bulking up for the movie and said,
I just wanted to be big and strong and look like somebody who can cause a bit of damage when s**t hits the fans. I also think sometimes one could, in striving for that perfect look, end up looking more like an underwear model than a warrior. Muscles start to grow, and that can be deemed aesthetic in certain capacities, but there is something about feeling strong in your body that elicits just a different feeling. You carry yourself differently.
Where Mescal and Pedro Pascal’s looks from the movie have been deemed top-notch, Joseph Quinn’s transformation reminded fans of Game of Thrones’ Cersei Lannister, played by actress Lena Headey. Fans took to social media to share their views on Quinn’s look as Emperor Geta in the movie. One wrote, ‘What in the Cersei Lannister is going on with Joseph Quinn’s head’.
so close! welcome back cersei lannister pic.twitter.com/KWu0DMVbre

Another user noted, ‘Joseph looks like a masculine Cersei, and Denzel Washington looks like Morgan Freeman.’ A lot of comments about Quinn’s look involved his comparison with Cersei Lannister, noting that the resemblance is uncanny. Cersei, from seasons five to eight, had short hair.
Joseph looks like a masculine Cersei. And Denzel looks like Morgan Freeman😭😂

Back in April, in a conversation with EW, Quinn acknowledged that the cast understood the legacy of the first film. He said,
So many people get misty-eyed about it. So going anywhere near it again felt a little scary.
However, the actor is thrilled for the audience to watch the movie and him as Geta on-screen.
Joseph Quinn praises Ridley Scott and calls him a ‘world builder’
Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn, in his interview with Men’s Health, couldn’t stop praising the filmmaker as he went on to call him a ‘world builder’. Quinn added,
He creates these films that utterly transport you, and that is a very rare thing to be able to do. I, like you, was a massive fan of his film. I remember watching Blade Runner as a kind of rite of passage with my dad when I was younger. Gladiator was really a seminal film for me. There are so many; there’s such a variety in that body of work that indicates the caliber of director that he is and the kind of creativity that he’s able to harness and weaponize.
Quinn explained that Scott conducts himself with such vigor and has a thirst for life and filmmaking, adding that he simply loves it and that it’s very infectious. The actor mentioned that he is very grateful that he has had a chance to work with Ridley Scott.
Outside of making the film, it was a very rare experience for a human being to bear witness to ancient Rome. He built ancient Rome! Not a lot of people can do that—Ridley Scott can.
The actor noted that the sequel is going to pay homage to the first film. He also added that working with the cast has been a remarkable experience for him.
Gladiator II is scheduled for release on November 22, 2024.
