Josh Hutcherson is Open to Playing Spider-Man for Marvel
With the onset of the Multiverse in the latest phase of the MCU, fans are going crazy thinking about possible variants and storylines where their favourite superheroes live different lives. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans saw their three favourite Spider-Men together on screen. The delightful moment featured Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield pulled together from their respective universes. That indeed opened the pandora’s box of possibilities.
Josh Hutcherson Wants To Play Spider-Man
When the makers were prepping for The Amazing Spider-Man movie in 2012, many young actors auditioned for the role to take on the mantle of the iconic web-slinging hero. One of them was The Hunger Games fame, Josh Hutcherson. His audition video from that time resurfaced last year and fans have rallied to see Hutcherson in the Spider-Man suit.
The Multiverse is playing a huge role in the MCU currently but with the removal of Kang’s storyline to focus on another villain, the studio might shift gears. Nonetheless, similar to seeing John Krasinski as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, fans want to see more variants of Spider-Man too. If not in the MCU movie, then Hutcherson might find a place in the upcoming third instalment of the Spiderverse animated franchise. In an interview with Inverse, he was asked if he would like to play Spider-Man’s variant, he said,
“Potentially, yeah. I was a big Spider-Man fan all my life growing up from the old-school cartoons and stuff. But yeah, I’d be open to it, man. I’d throw some webs around.”
He further emphasized how nobody knows why he didn’t get the role. There is no feedback pipeline and actors seldom learn what went wrong. He added, “You never find out. They just end up hiring somebody else. So I never found out why. I also do know that three weeks or so after I auditioned, I ended up getting Hunger Games, so it kind of worked out.”

Josh Hutcherson’s Upcoming Movies
One way or another, Hutcherson got his dues. He went on to play Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games with Jennifer Lawrence which became a huge hit. Since then Hutcherson received more and more offers to play iconic roles in movies and TV shows.
He will next be seen in The Beekeeper which will release on January 12. There are four other movies on Hutcherson’s agenda which might see a release date in later 2024 and 2025 as they are still under production.
