Five Nights at Freddy’s saw incredible success upon its release last month. The credit for the same has been majorly given to the popularity surrounding its video game which was first released back in 2014 and also the appearance of horror legend Matthew Lillard.

The movie revolves around a desperate young man who takes a job as a night guard at an infamous abandoned pizzeria and how the sinister secrets eventually unravel over the course of his duty.

Matthew Lillard claims working on Five Nights at Freddy’s was “humbling and exciting”

The horror movie legend, Matthew Lillard is playing the role of a career counselor in the movie. It’s Lillard who gets the main character, Mike Schmidt played by Josh Hutcherson, a job at the pizzeria. Interestingly, he ends up playing a rather villainous role as the film progresses.

While speaking about his role in the movie Five Nights at Freddy’s during an interview, Lillard spoke about how the role was exciting and had this to say to The Hollywood Reporter:

“I’m still doing all kinds of fun stuff, and I’m really excited about the things I’m doing. To get this opportunity out of the blue to have another franchise that could make a real impact on my career is humbling and exciting, and my kids are thrilled.”

While Matthew Lillard is seemingly grateful for the opportunity he got, it is worth noting that his presence in the film has given the movie a huge selling point.

Matthew Lillard reportedly never expected to come back to a big franchise again

While Matthew Lillard has appeared in the critically acclaimed crime drama Twin Peaks and several other TV projects over the past few years, he is most known for his appearances in Scream and Scooby Doo.
Five Nights at Freddy’s proved to be Lillard’s first appearance in a major horror franchise in over 27 years. Moreover, his last appearance in a major franchise was nearly 20 years ago with Scooby Doo. It’s exactly what made him a superstar in the late 1990s and early 2000s, however, the lack of big franchise roles over the past two decades made Lillard lose all hopes of returning to a big series again.

Things changed when Matthew Lillard was offered a role in Five Nights at Freddy’s and the horror legend is glad that his kids will finally get to see him on the big screen. It is worth noting that his kids were too young to see his most famous movies in theaters when they came out over two decades ago.
