The World’s Most In-Demand Animated Show
The data sourced from Parrot Analytics, a data science firm, reveals that Jujutsu Kaisen has a global demand rating 71.2 times higher than the average TV show. This “demand” is calculated based on the “attention, engagement, desire, and viewership” expressed by the consumers. The study also notes that a surge of interest was recorded in July 2023 when new episodes of Season 2 premiered. This ripple continued towards the end of 2023 when it “peaked on 29 December at 128 times the demand of the average TV show”.

This popular shonen manga, based on Gege Akutami’s manga series, also beat frontrunners like Loki, The Witcher, The Last of Us, and Black Mirror. Despite two seasons and a prequel movie since its debut in 2020, Jujutsu Kaisen managed to steal the title from other popular TV shows. This confirms that mainstream interest in anime has catapulted in recent years.
What Contributes Towards Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Success
Guinness World also shared intriguing insights regarding the popularity of the anime series, confirming that Jujutsu Kaisen amassed massive viewership from the younger audience demographic.
“With Gen Z (ages 13–22) comprising 71.3% of viewers, JUJUTSU KAISEN resonated with a younger audience than both One Piece (56.7% Gen Z) and Attack on Titan (64.4%). This enthusiastic fan base ultimately helped carry the anime to being the most popular of the year.“
Attack on Titan, which concluded its final season last November, lost narrowly this time after its three-year streak. One Piece saw a boost in interest with the release of Netflix’s live-action adaptation, which introduced new fans to the anime series and encouraged old viewers to rewatch the old episodes.
