“Just don’t let her sing”: Lady Gaga Honestly Doesn’t Deserve All the Hate For Her ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Casting After Joker 2
- Lady Gaga has become the target of online hatred as she is held responsible for the failure of Joker 2.
- She has been cast in Wednesday 2, but fans do not seem too happy with this announcement.
- It is unlikely that she had as much creative control over the movie as director Todd Phillips and lead actor Joaquin Phoenix.
The internet seems to have claimed Lady Gaga as its new target of hatred, and it is all thanks to her portrayal of Harleen Quinzel in the box office bomb, Joker 2. The sequel to the blockbuster first film did not turn out to be quite what everyone was expecting. There was only one way that the disappointment could be dealt with and it is obviously dragging the reputations of those involved through the mud.
Of all the big names that are considered responsible for ruining the movie, Gaga has turned out to be the first one to have hit the internet with the announcement of a new project. As expected, netizens have not yet been able to digest the failure. Consequently, the Poker Face singer has to bear the brunt of it even if technically, it is not her fault that the movie turned out to be how it is.
Lady Gaga Has Been Cast in Wednesday 2, But the Internet Wants None of It
Lady Gaga made her mark in the music industry with her debut studio album, The Fame, released in 2008. It catapulted her to global recognition. However, she did not seem to be quite done with her agenda to take over the entertainment industry. So, she ventured into acting and was having a successful run until Joker 2 came along.
Gaga made her feature film debut in 2013 when she played the role of La Chameleon, a shape-shifting assassin, in Machete Kills. Some of her most notable roles were in the TV series, American Horror Story: Hotel and the romantic drama, A Star is Born. The latter of these made her the first woman to win some of the most prestigious awards including an Academy Award.
Recently, Entertainment Weekly announced that the Die with a Smile singer has been cast in Netflix’s Wednesday in an undisclosed role. It is safe to say that some fans are rather upset with the news. Here is what some of them had to say:
Just don’t let her sing

Lord no, not another musical

Oh dear, she is going to make it become a musical and be the next 'Joker 2'

Understandably, fans are upset about Joker 2‘s failure. However, it has to be noted that Gaga is not a bad actress. In fact, she has proved her skills with movies like A Star is Born and House of Gucci. So, this hatred towards her Wednesday casting announcement seems unjustified.
Lady Gaga Was Not Responsible for Joker 2 Becoming a Musical
Gaga is not in the original Joker movie which makes it unlikely that she had much creative control over the movie including the fact that it would become a musical. During a video conference for the movie, director Todd Phillips opened up about how the musical elements ended up in the movie (via The Korea Times).
[..] there was music inside of Arthur in the first film. That comes out in the first movie where he’s dancing in the bathroom, or he’s coming down the stairs in the Bronx. So we thought, if we do another one and if he finally for the first time finds love in his life, maybe that music inside of him comes out. So it didn’t seem like that much of a leap to us to turn this to have musical elements or for it to become a musical.
Phillips added that he wanted to use the songs to depict Arthur’s traumatic past and his relationship with the new love of his life, Lee. The film includes numerous songs and musical performances from Lee and Arthur. This was very bizarre for the audience to witness since it is a comic book film about a supervillain. However, Gaga is only partially responsible for its failure and does not deserve the kind of hate she is receiving.
