Kaley Cuoco Is the Main Reason Why “The Flight Attendant” Won’t Return for Season 3
- Kaley Cuoco starred in The Flight Attendant which ran for 2 seasons.
- The show is reportedly not returning for another season as the story had ended.
- Cuoco and showrunner Yockey revealed in statements that they had a great time working on the series.
After starring as Penny in the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory for 12 glorious seasons, Kaley Cuoco underwent a resurgence with The Flight Attendant. Poised as a limited series at first, great reviews and fan support made creators come back with another season that ended in May 2022.
Based on Chris Bohjalian’s novel of the same name, the intriguing series keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Cuoco shone in the lead role as the titular flight attendant who gets embroiled in some or other criminal activity only to navigate the situation using her wit and presence of mind. Sadly, fans will miss the series as it will not be returning for season 3.
Kaley Cuoco had no plans to return for season 3
Back when the second season of The Flight Attendant ended, Kaley Cuoco shared that she didn’t feel like jumping into another season immediately. It was understandable since she signed on to play Cassandra Bowden for a limited series at first which later expanded to include another season.
Cuoco even received Emmy nominations for her role in the series where she also served as an executive producer. When asked about plans for season 3, she told People,
Now, I’m like, ‘Well, we did two. We should probably be done.’ And I think I’ve been outnumbered with that thought. There’s definitely interest in doing a third season. I think for me, at this moment, the plane has landed. I think I need a minute.
I just kind of feel like we just ended. Some of my favorite shows on TV take some time to come back, and then I get very excited about a new season. I want to make sure that the fans are excited and that we’re not pushing it too hard.
The actress did not want to press too hard to squeeze the show’s popularity and give fans some time to process the events of The Flight Attendant season 2. Unlike other shows which tend to release season after season only to realize their faltering popularity, Cuoco wished to slow down and let the show go when it’s still popular.
What is The Flight Attendant About?
The first season of The Flight Attendant followed the titular character Cassie Bowden who is a bit unstable under the influence of alcohol. She goes through the motions for her job and finds peace at the bottom of a glass. However, things turn ugly when she gets involved with a passenger who is later found murdered. Cassie has to do everything in her power to prove her innocence and walk away scot-free.
Season 2 of the show follows along similar lines as she starts life afresh in Los Angeles and works part-time for the CIA. She is sent overseas for an assignment that goes awry, putting Cassie in another high-stakes situation. With a mix of thrill and suspense, the show ensures entertaining sequences and great characters who bring everything together.
Kaley Cuoco and Showrunner Steve Yockey released final statements
With the recent announcement that The Flight Attendant will not be returning for season 3, both Cuoco and the showrunner Steve Yockey released poignant statements to mark an end to their collaboration and the series as a whole. While fans might be upset over this cancellation, it’s best to leave a show at its peak rather than disgrace its legacy by reducing viewership.
Cuoco’s final statement read, “What started out as an attention-grabbing book cover quickly evolved into an extraordinary flight of a lifetime. I always envisioned TFA as a limited series and thanks to an incredible creative team, we were able to deliver two thrilling seasons. Personally, playing Cassie has been a dream come true and I am so grateful for everyone who played a part in bringing this extremely original series to life.”
Yockey, the man behind the show’s genius execution and screen adaptation, said, “The Flight Attendant was a true passion project and the reception from viewers and critics alike was pretty stunning. Our unorthodox spectacle of a show really found people. As we all move on to new projects, those two seasons of television and the incredible team of professionals behind them will always stay at the top of my list.”
While Cuoco certainly pulled most of the weight of the series, there were other actors who made the show incredibly successful. Zosia Mamet, Griffin Matthews, Deniz Akdeniz, and Rosie Perez along with Mo McRae, Callie Hernandez, and JJ Soria starred in The Flight Attendant to bring the suspenseful stories to life.
The Flight Attendant is streaming on Max.
