James Cameron’s magnum opus, Titanic, took over the world as soon as it was released. It gave us the height of romance on the silver screen, and the movie depended on Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio to bring the epic saga of love to life. They again appeared in Sam Mendes’ 2008 movie Revolutionary Road, a movie that is always seen as a sequel to Titanic for die-hard fans in the sense that it shows the same actors getting married and navigating married life on screen.

Titanic’s 4K Ultra HD release is coming soon, and it includes a featurette, Titanic: Stories from the Heart, where Kate Winslet opens up about her friendship with Leonardo DiCaprio that blossomed from the sets of Titanic and continued to the present day.

“We’ll always just make that call right away:” Kate Winslet opens up about her friendship with Leonardo DiCaprio after Titanic

In an exclusive sneak peek to Entertainment Tonight, Kate Winslet opens up about her decade-long friendship with Leonardo DiCaprio. While talking about how it was to work with DiCaprio on the sets of Titanic over 20 years ago, she said:

“Once I started working with Leo, we were able to kind of find our own rhythm. And it’s amazing to kind of look back and think about it all over again.”

Kate Winslet also mentioned that she and DiCaprio “clicked immediately, right away.” She also went on to say:

“He was this kind of mess of long, skinny, uncoordinated limbs. And he was just very free with himself, and he had this effervescent energy that was really magnetic. And I remember thinking, ‘Oh, this is gonna be fun. We’re definitely gonna get along.’ And we just really did. We just really did.”

She went on to gush about their friendship, saying:

“We connected on so many levels. That sense of focus on the craft and still really caring deeply about that to this day.”

There is one thing that still has not changed between Winslet and DiCaprio. She said that even after all these years, they always pick up each other’s calls instantly.

“And we’ll always just make that call right away. There’s no like, ‘Hang on, I’ll call you tomorrow.’ It’s instant. And that’s actually really something.”

She goes on to end it by saying that friendships that bind two people together and that have a shared history are “really something.”

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet always shared a platonic friendship their whole lives after the Titanic. Contrary to popular belief, this duo never reportedly dated in the 25 years of their friendship. In an interview with Glamour in 2017, Winslet revealed that they “never fancied each other.” She told The Guardian in 2021 that she and DiCaprio are “bonded for life.”
