When you think of superheroes, you probably imagine flying capes and epic fights, right? But let’s get real for a second—what about the struggles behind the scenes? Enter Black Widow, the long-awaited Marvel film featuring Scarlett Johansson.

After a bunch of delays, it finally dropped in theaters and on Disney+ on July 9, 2021. Fans are hyped to see Natasha Romanoff in action, but making this movie was far less glamorous—more like a boot camp vibe!

Peep this out: dodging bullets while keeping a smile on your face. Johansson and her co-star, Florence Pugh, tackled a brutal four-month shoot across multiple countries, even while fighting off infection. That’s some serious dedication!

Shooting in Norway and Morocco, and then to the UK and the US, these actresses had to be tough as nails to pull it off. To be honest, when Kathryn Hahn said that Black Widow is her favorite Marvel movie, there’s no sense in asking why.

Filming Black Widow was more like an extreme sport than just action scenes! Director Cate Shortland called it a serious challenge. From Norway’s freezing winds to Morocco’s busy streets, the cast had to tackle it all. It sounds fun, but it also meant a ton of travel and adapting on the fly.

Shortland told Indie Wire, “it was like being in the army.” Our Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson, and Yelena Belova, Florence Pugh, didn’t have it easy. They both caught pneumonia during the shoot. Yes, pneumonia!

They were literally fighting against the elements while trying to look fierce on camera. And no wonder why another Marvel star, Kathryn Hahn is all about this movie. We totally feel you on this, Hahn!

So, what kept everyone’s spirits up during that intense shoot? ScarJo’s charm and humor, for sure! Even with all the tough conditions, Johansson kept it positive. Shortland pointed out that the actress has no diva vibes—she treated everyone like family, from the big bosses to the crew.

Scarlett Johansson is Back in the MCU Again

Scarlett Johansson is back in the Marvel scene as an executive producer for Thunderbolts*! She’s been playing Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, since 2010 and made a big sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame.

Her last solo flick, Black Widow, dropped in 2021 and had some drama when it hit theaters and Disney+ at the same time, which led to a lawsuit. Now Disney’s confirmed she’s involved with Thunderbolts*, which makes total sense since it features characters from her Black Widow story.

With Johansson producing Thunderbolts*, it shows Marvel’s still about keeping those connections strong. The first trailer for the film (watch it on Marvel Entertainment’s YouTube channel) has already dropped, and fans are hyped for its 2025 release!

Thunderbolts* is set to release on 2 May, 2025, while Black Widow is available to watch on Disney+.
