“Kelly is trying too hard or Faking it”: Kelly Ripa’s Decision to Co-host Live With Mark Consuelos Will Have A Disasterous Ending, Says Critics
Fans of the show morning talk show Live are dissatisfied with what they have seen on it now that Ryan Seacrest has left the show and Kelly Ripa has found a new co-host in the form of her husband Mark Consuelos. People who simply don’t connect with their on-screen banter have criticized them. They reportedly find trolls coming for their loved-up dynamic “irritating,” but they are ultimately unbothered and have no plans to change anything just because of a few critics.
Consuelos took over from Ryan Seacrest, 48, after the American Idol host announced in February that he would be stepping down after nearly six years and moving back to Los Angeles.
Critics Call ‘Unbearable’ Show And Think Series ‘won’t last’
The show Live With Kelly and Ryan has been renamed Live With Kelly and Mark, and millions of viewers tuned in on Monday morning to see how the real-life couple would get along on camera. If Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos would last as co-hosts have been questioned by detractors. And no is the response.
The show’s first transmission under its new moniker and with its new co-hosts was on April 17. They posted a promo video with Kelly and Mark on the show’s official Instagram and urged viewers to set their DVRs for the new name of the show.
In the comments section, though, many critics slammed the new pairing and admitted they think the show will be ending soon.
“Not Interested,” one person wrote at the time as another predicted: “This is when it gets canceled.”
“Not good,” a third follower said of Mark taking over for Ryan.
“The beginning of the end… what a waste,” another user blasted.
Many fans were unamused, expressing their dissatisfaction with the couple’s live moment on Twitter.
“Kelly And Mark’s show is just dumb! This morning they were talking about how Mark snores at night! Had to instantly change the channel at my job,” one fan tweeted.
Ripa, however, gave her husband a lot of credit for his acting debut, telling that she believed he performed “better than (she) ever thought possible” and did an “amazing” job. He’s a natural, and I have a feeling things will continue to go well.
The Other Co-hosts of Live Before Mark Consuelos
Regis Philbin was the sole host of the first version of The Morning Show. Before deciding on former NFL player Michael Strahan, Ripa spent months doing on-air auditions for roughly 60 potential male co-hosts, including Josh Groban, Seth Meyers, Neil Patrick Harris, Alec Baldwin, and NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan.
Ryan Seacrest, who had been Ripa’s co-host for the last six years, said he was leaving to focus on hosting American Idol.
After seeing Seacrest, 48, replace Consuelos, viewers vented that Mark Consuelos wasn’t a good substitute. In 2019, Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Ripa took home the Emmy for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host. For more than a year, their program has been the highest-rated daytime talk show for women ages 25 to 54.
“I’m not really feeling the morning show without Ryan Seacrest anymore,” a fan admitted.
A second fan criticized: “This the worst decision. Horrible cohosts. There was no one else who could cohost with Kelly Ripa? Please bring back Ryan!”
Seacrest’s last show aired on April 14, 2023.
Ripa and Consuelos, both 52, the couple — who co-starred on All My Children together, have been married since 1996 and share three adult children, will celebrate their 27th wedding anniversary on May 1. They share three children — Michael, 25, Lola, 21, and Joaquin, 19.
