Among its downs is the Blade reboot film which has been struggling to escape developmental hell for a long time. Recently, Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler’s latest collaboration has beaten them to it. The first poster of their vampire film, Sinners, has been released, and Feige now might have something to worry about.

In 2013, Blade was among the many characters that Marvel gained back rights to after losing them to New Line Cinema during the 1990s. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a script for the movie was in the works.

6 years later, it was announced that Mahershala Ali would play the titular role in the reboot. That plan is still in place. However, there have been too many creative overhauls to the point that its future looks rather bleak. To top it all, it now has a competitor.

In January 2024, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Black Panther director Ryan Coogler was the director, co-producer, and writer of a then-untitled genre film. His longtime collaborator Michael B. Jordan was set to star in the lead role.

So far, Jordan has starred in all of Coogler’s projects so this was not a surprise, but exciting nonetheless. On Monday, Warner Bros. first dropped a teaser to reveal the title of the movie, and then, wasted no time in releasing the first poster.

While specific details are still under wraps, it is known that the movie is about a vampire hunter set in the South. Judging by the poster, the movie might see Jordan in a dual role. A trailer for the same is set to be released on Tuesday.

Fans Have Been Quick to Notice That Ryan Coogler is Releasing a Vampire Film Before Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios is good at keeping things tightly under wraps and by the looks of it, the Creed director is just as good. The fact that he was making a vampire movie was not revealed until earlier this year. On the other hand, the superhero studio has still not managed to get the highly-anticipated Blade reboot off the ground.

Fans have taken note of this ironic correlation and have expressed their opinions about the same on the internet. Here is what some of them had to say:

It is not every day that a vampire film is released. So, the fact that Coogler has managed to pull it off before Marvel could do Blade is ironic. That said, the movie has an ensemble cast with Hailee Steinfeld and James O’Connell among others.

Sinners will be in theaters from March 7, 2025.
