Kevin Feige Seemingly Confirms What Fans Long Suspected About ‘Fantastic Four’ Proving Pedro Pascal Led Film Could Pioneer a New Era in the MCU
Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, has played a huge role in helping the franchise reach great heights. He began working for Marvel all the way back in 2000 when he was hired as a producer. In 2007, he came up with the idea of creating a shared universe since the studio had the rights to the core Avengers members even though the rights for X-Men, Blade and Spider-Man were with other studios.
Feige’s vision was brought to life as the Marvel Cinematic Universe and first in line was Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, released in 2008. With Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, Marvel regained the rights to franchises like X-Men and Fantastic Four. While there is no official news on a solo movie on the former, a Fantastic Four movie is already in development and Feige has made some revelations about it.
Kevin Feige Seems to Have Confirmed Fans’ Suspicions Regarding The Fantastic Four
For years, Kevin Feige worked to help Marvel Studios achieve unparalleled success solely with projects on members of Avengers. However, he remained disappointed about the fact that the company did not own the rights to teams like the Fantastic Four and X-Men because it meant that they had little to no creative control on the screen adaptations of the projects.
All that changed in March 2019 when Disney acquired Fox Studios, and Marvel Studios got its chance to shine with their rights to the other superhero teams restored. After closing the deal for a whopping $71.3 billion, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that they planned to integrate the Fantastic Four into the MCU (via The Hollywood Reporter).
That same year, at the Marvel Studios San Diego Comic Con, Feige announced the movie to be set in the MCU (via Variety). Recently, Feige gave updates regarding the movie on The Official Marvel Podcast and in doing so, he seems to have confirmed what fans have been suspecting for quite some time now.
It is a period film, and there was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air making a 4 symbol. There was a cityscape in that image. There were a lot of smart people who noticed that that cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know or the New York that existed in the 60s in our world. Those are smart observations, I’ll say…
The said cityscape can be seen in the art shared on this Instagram post. As for the smart observations, many fans suspected that this movie is set in an alternate universe. This will mark a first for the franchise because so far, Earth-616 has only had visitors from alternate universes, with Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness as the exception since it had a lot of universes involved.
The Fanastic Four Is About To Begin Filming
While there are no specific details about the movie’s plot, fans now know that it is set in the 1960s and probably in an alternate universe. Additionally, Feige also revealed when the filming will kickstart.
Our director, Matt Shakman has already moved to London, and we start filming at the end of July. Funny story, we start shooting the Monday after Comic-Con. We start filming the day after on Fantastic Four.
This would mean that filming begins on July 29th. The movie stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Ebon-Moss Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman in the lead roles.
