Record producer Sean Diddy Combs and Kim Porter started dating in the 1990s and decided to part ways in 2007. The model-actress and the music artist welcomed their first child, Christian, in 1998, and the couple decided to go their separate ways in 1999. The former couple battled over child support in court before they reconciled in 2003.

Porter and Combs welcomed their twins, D’Lila Star and Jessie James, in 2006. Combs also adopted Porter’s son Quincy Brown, whom she shared with music producer AI B. Sure. The record producer helped Porter raise Brown as his child. Despite being together for a long time and going through ups and downs together, the former couple never made it to the altar.

When Diddy was asked during an interview with Essence if marriage was on the cards, he said (via People)

I know she deserves to get married, but I’m just not ready. It’s not a reflection of how much I love Kim. It’s that I’m just learning how to be a good boyfriend. When I’m finished with this step, I’ll move on to the next.

The former couple ended their relationship in 2007 for good, and Kim Porter at the time shared that she decided to end the relationship. She explained that it was in the best interest of herself, Sean, and their family, adding that she is looking forward to moving on with her life and her career. Without being bitter about the split, the late model wished Diddy prosperity, health, and happiness in life. In an interview with Essence, she shared,

I wanted to be dramatic. I wanted him to know I wasn’t breaking up with him for two weeks—or maybe leaving for two days. If I pack up everything—twins and all—it means I’m out! Puffy’s an action person, not a talk person. So, I had to take action. Telling him, ‘Babe, I’m leaving’, was not going to do it.

Porter, at the same time, revealed that their relationship soured after it was revealed that he had fathered a child with another woman while she was pregnant with the twins. The former couple was able to remain close and maintain a healthy co-parenting relationship for the kids.

In 2018, Kim Porter was found dead in her house in San Fernando Valley, and the autopsy report revealed that she had died of lobar pneumonia. (via County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner) She was 47 years old when she passed away. Combs took to his social media to express the loss of Kim Porter by writing that they were more than best friends; they were more than soulmates; they were some other sh**. He concluded that he misses her so much.

In an interview with ET in 2023, Combs shared that Porter inspired his album The Love Album: Off the Grid, adding that when he lost Kim Porter, it broke his heart forever.

Kim Porter’s kids address the hurtful and false rumors about her death

Diddy’s arrest has opened doors for the public and the media to dig deep into his life and use whatever the information is for their benefit, and Kim Porter’s death is just one of them. An alleged memoir titled Kim’s Lost Words was published by Chris Todd, claiming that he had obtained the book from a close friend who claims that Kim Porter had shared a thumb drive of her writing with them. There has been no documentary evidence to prove that it’s real

The supposed memoir described Diddy as a ‘terrifying monster’ who threatened Porter with a gun and hit her for refusing to take part in a sex act. The 60-page book stated that Porter had texted her friends ‘he got me’ when she fell ill. Porter’s former partner, AI B. Sure!, and her best friend, Eboni Elektra, have stated that the supposed memoir is fake.

Porter’s kids have now taken to social media to share a statement that the claims that their late mother wrote a book are simply untrue as she did not write anything. They mentioned that the so-called friend speaking on behalf of their mother or her family is not a friend and does not have her best interest at heart. The kids added,

Our lives were shattered when we lost our mother. She was our world, and nothing has been the same since she passed. While it has been incredibly difficult for them to reconcile how she could be taken from them so soon, the cause of her death has been long established, and there has been no foul play.

They noted that they are deeply saddened that the world has decided to make a spectacle of such a tragic event in their lives. The kids wrote in a lengthy statement that her memory shouldn’t be tainted by horrific conspiracy theories
