Kingsman Star Taron Egerton Reportedly Back in the Race to Replace MCU Actor Heavily Rumored to Have His Final Appearance in Avengers 6
There may be something interesting and new coming up in the Marvel Universe. Fans are eagerly waiting for Deadpool & Wolverine to come out, as Hugh Jackman is back again as Wolverine, and rumor has it that the fan-favorite X-Man might be retiring soon. This has created speculation on who will be the successor to the iconic role.
Kingsman star Taron Egerton’s name was brought up a few years ago as a potential candidate for Wolverine. Now, recent speculations are bringing up his name again, but there is more to the picture.
Will Taron Egerton Be the Next Wolverine?
It looks like fans are taking it quite seriously that Taron Egerton can potentially become the next Wolverine. According to Sportscasting.com, the odds are actually favoring him right now. He is leading the chart with +200 odds, leaving behind such tough contenders as Tom Hardy and Henry Cavill.
Egerton has been looking forward to the role for quite some time now. In an interview with Total Film magazine, he discussed his meeting with Marvel Studios regarding a part in a movie. At the time, he said it wasn’t for Wolverine, but he did leave open the possibility in the future (via Comic Book Movie).
I don’t know. I’d never say never, and I do love those movies. I’ve really enjoyed watching them over the past 10–15 years. But whether I… You know, it may not be that they’re the right thing for me anymore. I think maybe I’m past the point where that felt like the right thing [for my career].
However, Egerton stated that he could no longer relate to the character that much. He mentioned that he’s not sure if playing Wolverine is what he wants anymore.
On the other hand, Hugh Jackman is in the game as of now. He’s coming back for Deadpool & Wolverine, and there are rumors he might show up in Avengers: Secret Wars too. But he has some conditions. According to scooper MyTimeToShineH on X, he will only do it if he is allowed to cross paths with Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man and Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man characters.
As far as Egerton’s Wolverine is concerned, with all the multiversal storylines going on in the MCU, fans might never know when they will see multiple Wolverines or a new Wolverine in the future.
Deadpool & Wolverine Might Change the Path of MCU
There are heavy chances that Deadpool & Wolverine can shift things up in the MCU. As is evident from the trailers, the movie is going to introduce this wild concept from the comics, where there is one special hero in each universe who is very important. If they die or get taken out, their whole universe could vanish.
This ties into another idea of nexus beings, which the MCU has been playing with for some time now. These are characters who can really mess with time and reality. It was already seen with Wanda and Kang, and it looks like Deadpool might be one too for his universe.
There is another speculation that suggests Deadpool could possibly be the one to integrate mutants into the MCU through time and multiversal travel. The trailer for the film shows him appearing in various scenes from previous Marvel films. The speculation suggests that he might change things in the past to make mutants a thing in the present, which is a pretty clever way to bring in the X-Men without relying on the multiverse.
Post not foundMoreover, crossover movies have always been huge for Marvel, and Deadpool & Wolverine looks like it’s going to be no exception. If it does well, fans might see even more team-ups in the future. The MCU’s future is looking wild, and whether it’s Hugh Jackman, Taron Egerton, or someone else, fans can hope for something exceptional from the comic book giant.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.
