DC Studios’ Superman, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, is going to be the first film in the DC Universe created by James Gunn and Peter Safran. DCU is a soft reboot of the DC Extended Universe and features a united continuity and story across live-action movies, television, animation, and video games.

Superman [earlier titled Superman: Legacy] is reportedly going to recount the story of Superman reconciling his kryptonite heritage with his human family in Kansas. James Gunn is the writer-director of the highly anticipated movie. Recent on-set image leaks can give fans some idea about how their Superman would look in the movie.

David Corenswet’s physical transformation for Superman leaves the audience impressed

The original DC Extended Universe came to an end with Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023. Now DC Studios’ co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran are gearing up for the release of their first movie in the DC Universe, Superman, in 2025. David Corenswet is going to lead the DCU’s launch as Superman, replacing Henry Cavill.

Fans have been waiting for updates on the movie since the cast was announced, and ahead of the release of the movie, images from the set have surfaced online. These images show the actor in his Superman-ready body, and looks very similar to that of Henry Cavill’s take on the superhero. Dressed in a black tank top and shorts, Corenswet looks ready to take on the world as the next Man of Steel. The images clearly showcase that the actor has bulked up for the role as fans would have expected.

However, it was reported that the pictures were not from the sets of Superman but from an advertisement set where Corenswet was filming. DCU Updates’ X account shared that the person who had shared the images thought they had met Henry Cavill, as they wrote,

“Now I can die in Peace. I got to meet Superman and the Witcher in person face-to-face”

But it was Corenswet in his Superman body.

Fans online have been impressed with Corenswet’s transformation and mentioned, ‘He’s got the perfect build for Superman,’ ‘He looks massive.’ Ardent fans of the comic books are very particular about the physical appearance of the character on screen, but the majority of them seemed impressed with the hard work Corenswet put in for the character.

The Greatest Hits director Ned Benson describes David Corenswet as an ‘extraordinary actor and a human being’

Ned Benson’s latest romantic fantasy movie, The Greatest Hits, stars David Corenswet as Max Enders alongside Lucy Boynton, Justin H. Min, and more. In his recent conversation with Collider, the writer-director was asked about Corenswet playing Superman and his initial reaction to it. Benson said,

“I was really happy for him. I was in the sound mix, and he called to tell me that he had been asked to test, and he’s like, ‘What do you think?’ And I’m like, ‘100 out of 100 times yes. Like, you don’t get this shot.’ He’s such an extraordinary actor, and he’s such an extraordinary human being.”

The director mentioned that he’s happy for him, adding that everyone is thrilled for him because he’s a great guy and a great actor. As it has already been known, Superman is not going to be an origin story and is going to focus on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.

Peter Safran shared with CBR that Superman is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way. He added that the superhero is kind in a world that thinks that kindness is old-fashioned. Later, James Gunn revealed that he had taken inspiration from DC Comics’s 2005–2008 run of All-Star Superman, which, according to fans and critics, was an interesting choice for Superman’s debut in the DCU.

DCU’s Superman is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
